I play Birchwood quite often but on this occasion it was disappointing. From the 2nd hole we had course green-keepers in front of us. They tipped sand onto the green then the next machine would drive around the green spreading it evenly. So each time we were ready to play our approach to the green we were waiting 5-10 minutes. Why they couldn't have worked backwards from the 18th I don't understand.

The greens were excellent but the course is pretty bland and way too many doglegs to cram in the holes.

Not impressed at all. To many blind shots and lack of distance markers. Greens fair but course not worth green fee.

An inland links type course, not in any way scenic..quite hilly and can be windy.
Not an attractive course.

Played here recently. Quite an easy course, would be ideal for beginners as most drives are protected by banks on either side of fairways. It's harder to miss the fairway than hit it. Ground very hard but to be expected in Summer months. Greens OK.

All in all, it's OK. Plenty of other far superior courses in this price bracket, so won't be hurrying back there (especially as even after joining up with another 2 ball, the round took over 5 hours, waiting to take every shot).

Links style course of championship length. More geared towards pay-and-play.
Very tough course for even the slightest wayward shot, as the coastal link style long grass comes almost to the edge of the fairways. Very small first cut area.
Most holes have narrow fairways and are surrounded by hilly rough.
So, a hard, unforgiving course.
Facilities are currently temporary as they are about to try to build a new clubhouse and facilities but planning consent still being denied. However, facilities before were awfull, old portacabins arranged to produce reception/shop, bar/restaurant and seperate clubroom. I never found members area but apparently there were changing rooms for members somewhere.
Because of the previous appalling, and unfortunately current poor, facilities, I consider round prices expensive compared to others nearby.
they don't offer cheap onlinteetimes via any websites, and only accept Greenfree vouchers.
In fairness, two positives: cheapest driving range for miles around and has happy hours; recently added Tour Pro Academy and one of the instructors is a very good ex-PGA tour Pro.
I don't play rounds there anymore for the reasons above; the range is, however, very popular with me.

I've played here for near on 10 yrs and seen the course change dramatically. Interested by the previously posted comments, thought I'd put the record straight. This used to be a severe true links styled course with knee deep rough down to the edge of fairways. Now, that WAS testing but no problem for us ladies who can keep it on the straight and narrow. (sorry fellas) The rough was initially cut back maybe 30 feet or so some years ago, which was perfect. Now it's non existent and done to promote societies. Greens are ok but again used to be so much better, really fast and slick. As ever, they suffer from pay and play who don't know how to use a pitch repairer, or who simply can't be bothered. (Not their course.) 5 minute tee intervals create backlogs on 1st tee. Yes, I did say the 1st ! ! If you have the patience of a saint and like slow play from the start, this is the course for you. Avoid weekends. Clubhouse facilities dire. Forget the portacabin, it's now a container block. No Pro shop (was never much before!) New Clubhouse promised Jan 09... no sign yet. Still, the place DOES look like a building site. Pete Mitchell must have seen an opportunity here so maybe his Academy will help turn it round. Food ok but not a patch on when Dee was there. The ketchup and sauces must be the cheapest available or watered down, perhaps they taste better than they look? Why do I play here? I'm beginning to wonder! It's cheap golf if you can play often enough and at the right time, besides I can be home in 5 minutes. I wouldn't waste a two for one voucher here, use it where you can get real value.

The course was in quite good condition given the time of year.
Green fees at £10 after 12 midweek make this good value for money.
The "club house" is a portacabin and has been this way for years. Think it's something to do with planning permission but lets the course down and not somewhere to go if you are planning a society or other mass gathering
