WORST EXPERIENCE EVER

Played here a little while back. I had booked as a change from my membership club at the time Crondon Park. We had been booked in for an afternoon round. When going into pay the young guy at the desk asked us for our handicap, we do not have an official handicap and that had not been mentioned when we booked. The young guy didn't believe us and contacted someone else by phone. After explaining that we hadn't been asked and what the person sounded like, he begrudgingly agreed to let us play! His attitude was terrible, I have never felt so unwelcome at a golf course before. The course is badly signed and the cut around the green was terrible. Probably the worst golf course in Essex. I recommend not to play there, they don't deserve your business.

like everything else in england too pricey

Course prices have increased but quality hasnt , the earl course wasnt a bad course at £15 but now its gone up to £23 and it certainly doesnt warrant that kind of price , the greens are average and the fairways below average , i wouldnt be surpised if money from playing the earl was being used to manicure the Private course, whuch your average minion isnt even get a sniff of.

OK

Short Course, but ok for a quick round when conditions are ok. Greens are small but ok and bunkers have a good covering of sand.

Only based on the past few rounds this is my opinion.
Went and played 1/4/17 only to find a 15% increase in price even though playing on temp tees (not mats) so the 7th par 3 was playing at 87 yards, as well as other tee positions being too far onto what they might call a fairway but more like rough. So disappointing as this is my local and I usually enjoy this course.

Played here over a year ago on a Sunday and green fees very reasonable
Turned up today they have increased the green fee to £20
Can't see any justification for increase course had rubbish littered all of the course
Fairway dug up for drainage and no repaired in a good way
I play three rivers for a lot less money good ball cleaners no par 5 but well worth £11 for a round
Think Rayleigh club need to clean up course and make it £20 pay and play very disapointed

Played the East Course (formerly Earl course). Played quite a few times in the past and its a course you go to if you cant get on anywhere else and was always cheap. Now £20 weekends and too much. They try to justify it by saying the course it better than it was but the bunkers werent that full of sand, a few looked like they should be GUR. They have cut the long rough shorter but there isnt that much of an improvement on the course. They clearly focus their attention on the more lucrative longer course

Now costing £15 for a midweek round at 4pm is a disappointment, used to be £6. Can play other, bigger courses for the same price. That said, the course is becoming in better condition, but not worthy of a £15 green fee.

Not really looked after as not the main course. Bunkers rock hard with not much sand. Owners tend to drive youngsters to a free hole and play, even if it holds you up.

Not played the Duke course but have played the Earl. Earl; No tee signs, direction signs or distance markers. No map or picture guide of holes available. Most fairways okay, greens seem reasonable. A bit of effort to improve would make a lot of difference. The layout of the course does not lend itself to choosing to do either just the front or back nine holes during twilight or when pushed for time - some clubs the first and last hole on each nine is by the club house - not here. Not a difficult course though (just as well as I am not very good!).

East Course

Played this course today, some positives but mainly negatives I’m afraid to say. First tee box has a net and metal pole in front of it that is very off putting. The greens on ALL holes were atrocious, not been rolled or cut and were very bumpy. Impossible to roll a decent putt. The fairways were also uncut as they were covered in daisys which take some time to regrow after cutting. Seems all the attention is given to the main course but they are still willing to take your money for a much less cared for course. Overall a disappointing day, best bit was the breakfast, that was spot on.
