Starting to look overpriced
As a nomadic golfer, I have played The Rayleigh Club's east course on many occasions over the years. It's mainly for the pay and play brigade or players that find 5,500 yards plus to much. It's a decent test and has generally been in ok condition, but over the last couple of times I've played it, the greens are showing a far bit of wear and tear and are very bumpy. Now I guess you get what you pay for. But given a midweek round has gone up from ?15 pre pandemic (which was about right), to now ?20 it's looking overpriced for what it is. I know clubs have to make back their lost revenues, but they also need to take into account the quality of the course, otherwise sooner or later people are going to take their business elsewhere.

The tee boxes and fairways had improved greatly in the last few months, the new owner is visibly improving the overall quality of this enjoyable course.
I especially enjoyed the holes furthest from the clubhouse, while parring the picturesque final hole improved things. The food, staff and facilities are spot on.

Small but nicely formed
It's an OK course that makes you think on most holes. The ?20 green fee is justabout right in these current times but certainly no more. Due to its yardage
circa 4500 yards it means you can get round quickly and a good course to
sharpen up your game. The 6 minute intervals were too short as there was
a bit of bunching.

Variable
Because of the weather, the fairways are hard but in need of a cut as some wispy bits of grass impede the run/shot. Greens are in fantastic conditions but the tee boxes are absolutely dreadful - need seed/sand mix but appears to be just sand and not watered. Very difficult to get a good stance on some holesReviewer Rating

Ok
This is a good course for someone looking for a easy going short course, having said this, there are a couple of testing holes. Course in good condition despite having little rain, greens particularly good, fairways ok, tee boxes not so great but still enjoyable ?20 for seniors which is good value. Clubhouse, staff & members all great, could do with a bell on some blind holes especially when it's busyReviewer Rating

Rayleigh East Course
The east coast is a smaller of the two courses they have here. Course is in very good condition although I've played it a few times and the clubhouse is very nice to relax after a game of golf.Reviewer Rating

Seasons about to kick in
Nice that the course is playing from the tee boxes, fairways are in good condition, but because tbe ground is basically clay they tend to dry out extremely fast making tgem very hard h der Club and foot, but as its the smaller of the two courses money is probably not available to put in water irrigation, greens were in very good condition, please people repair your pitch marksReviewer Rating

No golf etiquette required
We like to play the East course as it is a great way to put into practice what you have been practicing on the Range, which by the way is very good and well priced, the biggest issue we have with the East course is that no person seems to bother with trying to encourage any type of Golf Etiquette, be it with type of clothing being worn, Jogging Bottoms and hoodies seems OK it seems, driving the golf buggies wherever they like, and most annoying, how hard is it to KEEP UP WITH THE GAME IN FRONT AND NOT IN FRONT OF THE GAME BEHIND, we have walk of twice in recent weeks due to slow play, 1hr to play 3 holes is not acceptable, they are not long holes, quit on the 11thReviewer Rating

Tricky course for high handicappers.
I like this course. It's quite tricky for high handicappers but gives you a good game which tests your abilities when you play. The course is in reasonable condition, the tee boxes need some attention, however the greens are good. Great pro shop and club house with very good food. It shuts at 15.00 for food which means you can't eat after your round if you tee off later in the afternoon.Reviewer Rating
