Good but could do much better
Course as always very scenic, but the fairway grass is, all too often, too long, and covered in a small white flower which makes finding a ball on the fairway occasionally very difficult (and on two occasions, impossible!).No semi rough either. In addition there remain a lot of small deep drainage channels in which balls can be lost, trolleys stopped dead in their tracks and, more worryingly, ankles turned. They need filling with gravel. There are some good holes here, don't get me wrong, and greens are excellent , but the course maintenance needs to step up.(Round played: Jul 2020 - Score: 89 Handicap: 20.6)

Small but nicely formed
It's an OK course that makes you think on most holes. The ?20 green fee is justabout right in these current times but certainly no more. Due to its yardage
circa 4500 yards it means you can get round quickly and a good course to
sharpen up your game. The 6 minute intervals were too short as there was
a bit of bunching.

cheap as chips for twilight
18 hole course for £8.00 after 3pm. It`s a short course but there are still some tough holes. You can get round this course in 2 hours so it`s perfect for an evening of golf. People don`t mind letting you through which is always a big help.Greens are ok and the fairways are ok. It is the Rayleigh Clubs small practice course. I like the layout apart from back to back par 3`s on the16th and 17th. Only 100 yards each. Some blind holes to keep you on your game. I will play this course again and again. I use it a a confidence booster.

good course
The course is in good condition, the greens are in great condition. overall a good course with a more challenging front nine to back. 18th hole very close to club house with very uneven green making for an interesting finish.(Round played: May 2018 - Score: 82 Handicap: 26)

Interesting Round!
A nice sunny February afternoon, I know I said pop over to play the short course at Rayleigh. Paid up and go to the first tee, no one in front excellent. The ridiculous tee box placement meant that I had a big netting cover in front of me, meaning that any hope of not going right was highly probable. Alas ended up on the 18th fairway. Anyway played the hole, it was clear the recent weather conditions had taken their toll. The greenkeepers looked to worked their socks off to get this right but it was very boggy. Got told off by one of the greenkeepers for not following the right line off the green (my fault entirely I apologised and moved on). I have played this course over 40 times so for a shorter course it is challenging, frustrating and worth the ?17 paid out is questionable. The greens were in reasonable condition and the fairways were a combination of boggy, very boggy and drained. Played well until the 15th then got behind two of the slowest players I have ever experienced who dawdled and did not at any time look behind them especially as I was a single player. Anyway a good round played but would I come back in a hurry when Ballards Gore and especially Garons Park are in better nick. Value for money is questionable but overall did I enjoy, well yes its Golf but a few frustrations of both the course, fellow golfers and layout somewhat dampened he spirit.Reviewer Rating
