Absolute shocker

This course has got progressively worse over the years. The money they've spent on the clubhouse should've gone on the course. Every tee cut up, muddy, uneven ground. Greens the worst I've played. Thick, bobbly, untrue. Random patches of long grass in the middle of the fairways. Painfully slow play in front and the Marshall non existent. Won't be going near this place for a very long time.

Worst day of golf this year

Wow (not in a good way). Pre book a Saturday morning tee time during the week and it turns out we were placed straight after a society of 24+ people. Eventually teed off 25 minutes later than scheduled, and then proceeded to wait at every tee box for 5 to 10 minutes. Was not fun in the slightest. had to cut off 5 holes in the middle of the round to try and jump in front of society otherwise we were looking at 5-6 hour round. RIDICULOUS. The course marshal was driving around in his buggy but not doing anything.. The course itself has some interesting holes but the condition in places was shocking. One green in particular on the back 9; I have never seen anything like it. Felt like we were a risk of being swallowed up by a sink hole. Overall - terrible day.

All off mats, 5 temporary greens, 1 hole closed,
1 par 4 turned into par3 & par 4
Not told about any of this before teeing off
Total liberty taken by golf club they should at least let you know beforehand.
Would not use this course again

Played in rainy November course not in good condition greens spiked almost unplayable from any putt over 4' green fees expensive for poor quality. Had played before in June and course has some long par 5's which can carry drive long way but not in November when course is very hard work with harsh uphill par 3's. Not bad for public pay and play but summer time only.

Had a warning earlier this year on a Saturday morning when the course was overbooked. An embarassed pro in the shop offered us a £16 deal for next time. This was a Sunday and play was so slow we gave up after 12, no fun waiting 10 mins for every shot. Course absolutely drenched with 2 temporary greens. Nice layout and some good holes but this seems like one for the summer now - and only on week days.

(Round played: Mar 2015 - Score: 86 Handicap: 16.9)
Course poor condition
Cost of round £25.00
3 temporary greens in place
Most of the tees were under repair with temporary tees in place
This was not explained to us before we commenced play
No course Marshall's in place to manage slow play
We followed a (4 ball) on a 5 hour round, no one in front of this group for 4 holes.
Will not play / return to this course again

great potential

The condition of High Elms is not very good this Spring. Fairways are cut unevenly,
greens are very slow, bunkers are not maintained.
The course has very interesting par 4's which could be considered as well designed.
Due to the deep, thick rough, a round of golf with the seniors with which I play takes close to 5 hours, which is unacceptable.

very muddy back nine

There are three fairways on the back nine, 10th,11th and 12th that are unplayable and are very soul and score destroying.
The course in general is not in good condition even considering the winter conditions.

High Elms Very poor

Booked through their on line app. Played there on a number of occasions and for a municipal type course its always been good value with some interesting holes. However, after today's round I would advise staying away. The cost is very inexpensive but the course was in a terrible condition the tees would struggle to pass for a fairway, uneven longer grass in places. That is manageable but the greens are just awful lots of sand, uneven surface making putting a complete lottery.

Have to carry

High Elms. Doesn't drain very well. Course bans trollies and buggies for approx. 10 weeks through waterlogged ground. Per year. So unless you haven't got a medical condition and are fit to carry I would advise not to pay for years membership. Unless you play 3 or 4 times a week.

I was a me ber for 12 years till they started to ban personal buggies, and trollies in wet conditions. High Elms ddajns terribly and has mud or temp. greens a lot over approx. 5montgs jn winter autumn. I wouldn't recommend anyone to join the club unless they can carry a bag all the time. Not much grass on fairways. Certainly wouldn't pay £38 at weekend to play it.
