What the club says: A par 71 (SS70) and par 72 (SS72) for ladies, High Elms Golf Course, features many tree-lined fairways and strategically placed greenside bunkers which call for accurate driving and well placed iron shots. With its large variety of mature trees and excellent layout, High Elms is a public course of outstanding character and quality.

Apart from the normal mental challenges of golf, High Elms Golf Course gives you plenty of other things to think of, uphill and downhill lies, sidehill lies, doglegs and the 13th, unlucky for many regular players. It may only be a 224 yard par 3 from the white tees, but out of bounds left and right, uphill and over 3 bunkers to the green, means that although it is stroke index 2 on the mens card, many believe it to be the hardest hole on the course. Do not be put off though, play it as a par 4 and walk away happy.

High Elms winter conditions remain quite muddy on the majority of fairways.
The greens also are quite slow with only sporadic cutting.
The use of winter tees can be quite slippery especially when there is no saltspread in the tees.

Loved it

Best thing I could say is, this is a course I?d seriously consider joining if I lived closer.
I haven't played this course for over 15 years. I loved the round. One green was in need of a repair, but the rest were in great condition. The slopes and speeds made every green enjoyable and challenging. Tee boxes were broadly in good conditions. A couple needed repair and were uneven but was fine.

Hadn't played here for a while, practice nets were out of action due to them being replaced in a few days. I was early and the lady said I had to stick to my tee time as it was busy - I saw about 5 other golfers all day so could have gone out a bit earlier. There were more staff in the clubhouse than players. Course is I great shape and played long on some holes although the fairways were dry, greens were fast on approach shots and went over the back on many of my shots. A good challenge of a course with the added bonus of Spitfires overhead. Would recommend.

Lazy

Course maintenance has improved markedly over recent months which is very welcome And should reward Mytime financially ,however if they continue to allow extremely slow play by either having no Marshall’s or Marshall’s that don’t do their job then they won’t be as people won’t come back which is what has happened for years now .

Only 7 minutes between tee times which means waiting behind 4 balls leading to 5 hour round. Greens in bad shape, dry and crusty in places. Overall though a decent pay and play course.

Nice course in great condition

I haven't played here for a few years and it was great to be back, the course was in a great condition, especially the greens ... good price for midweek and not many golfers around, but a few dog walkers and both my partner and I had balls taken by two dogs so beware!! Nice simple clubhouse and friendly staff.

Spring improvement

High Elms is developing into a well maintained course. The work over the winter on the greens and fairways has shown many benefits. The addition of sand in the bunkers and extra maintenance from the Marshall/greenkeepers has shown a much improved condition.
The greens are coming along very nicely and now are cut to a lower height providing a smoother and faster green.

Have to carry

High Elms. Doesn't drain very well. Course bans trollies and buggies for approx. 10 weeks through waterlogged ground. Per year. So unless you haven't got a medical condition and are fit to carry I would advise not to pay for years membership. Unless you play 3 or 4 times a week.

I was a me ber for 12 years till they started to ban personal buggies, and trollies in wet conditions. High Elms ddajns terribly and has mud or temp. greens a lot over approx. 5montgs jn winter autumn. I wouldn't recommend anyone to join the club unless they can carry a bag all the time. Not much grass on fairways. Certainly wouldn't pay £38 at weekend to play it.
