Holes quite open on the back 9 so you can unleash the driver.

On the first round, our group played more irons off tees than I'd ever seen before, with the aim of hitting some of these narrow fairways. On the second round there was a lot more driver action after we'd realised that you can miss the designated faiway yet still have a shot in from the fairway next door.
There are a couple of great par 3's and watch out for the par 5 "Big Dipper" one of the strangest holes I've seen.

The back 9 tends to get a little undulating, so not exactly an easy walk , but nothing that should prove too daunting for most people. The fairways also gets a little tight on occasions too, but on most of the holes you should at least find your ball, even if you don't have a shot.
The scenary just adds to the pleasure of playing here, and based on the cost we paid to play this is an awesome bargain. Highly recommended.

Saturday was much quicker but that was because of fair groups in front who would wave through. Despite heavy rain the preceding days, fairways were in good conditions and greens held (when I hit them). Back 9 is quite hilly compared to the front but some challenging holes 15 (Big Dipper) and 16 (Lakeside) quite unique challenges.
I played just better than my handicap which was quite pleasing for my first visit, hopefully will return to the course and the Vineyard restaurant nearby.

Played this course twice in 2 days sep 3-4 2022.Weather had been dry of late so fairways were dry and hard.
Only 2 par 5s and 3 par 3s. A string of 7 par 4s from 2nd to 8th. 1st & 2nd good holes then we get some silly tight par 4s , lap of the gods if you get a good or bad bounce. You can easily be blocked by low branches and tricky to advance to ball back in play as the fairways are so slopey. The par 5s are good. 1st reachable in 2 as its all downhill. 15th a good par 5 you have to plot your way. 9th a good short par 3 with a very slopey green. other 2 par 3s are both with raised greens that you cant see, both very difficult. The condition of the fairways was good, greens also were good and fast. I would take about 9 or 10 holes from the 18 as good design but the rest not enjoyable. Will not be rushing back but worth a go if you live close.

Donnington Valley
Well maintained course with nice pro shop and staff. Dealt with efficiently and politely. Course was dry due to recent weather conditions, understandably. This made the course difficult as you had to play for the slope of the fairways and the extra distance the course mad the ball travel. Greens were true and reasonably fast.Lacks signage as to where certain holes are and can be misleading especially hole 9 to 10....difficult to find! Otherewise a great day out.
