What The Club Says

Donnington Valley Hotel and Spa, in Newbury, had its beautiful 18 hole parkland golf course re-designed and lengthened between 1998 and 2000 and is now a challenging 6221 yards, par 71 course from the back tees. Although some of the holes are quite forgiving the closing four holes are regarded as one of the toughest finishes in the country, with water featuring prominently on 15th, 16th and 17th holes.

Testing course due to its very slopping fairways, especially when it's very dry as it's been lately. Greens and tees are excellent. Need to be on your game to score well around this course.Tough for any casual golfer.Great staff very helpful and friendly.

Booked overnight play and stay for Masters weekend with my son and nephew which we had looked forward to for months but the whole weekend was wrecked because some genius decides to hollow tine the greens on masters weekend they were unplayable
I feel completely let down and robbed worst greens I have ever played on not good enough Donington Valley

Very Nice Course

What a lovely course, the weather was atrocious with so much rain but greens held up well. Great layout and friendly staff in the Pro Shop. We were only able to play the front nine due to weather but looking forward to going back to play the back nine also.

Summer Fairways!

As with all golf courses around the south the hot weather has taken its toll on the fairways of this course. The ball runs forever. Unfortunately the course has many slopes and a ball landing on one side of the fairway could be found on the other side or worse the next fairway over!!
The greens here are fabulous quick and again sloppy so you need your best putting boots.

Mission Impossible

We played this course and found some of the holes virtually impossible to play. Admittingly Berkshire is suffering a drought, but saying that the fairways had ruts and were grassless and the ball ran for ever. There was no respite on the greens, which were extremely fast and very undulating, which made putting challenging and in some cases unplayable. On the hotel side of the course the fairways are all on sidehill slopes and with the ground conditions made them impossible to hold, running off into massive pine trees with their branches at ground level, it made tee shots a lottery and penalty shots incurred, which compounded into a 5 hour round. I'm a reasonable player and would not play this course again. Major work is needed to clear the ground level branches as it's not right that golfers have to suffer unnecessary punishment and to have to pay for it.

First time round here. Lovely course. Needs a bit of knowledge to make the most of it. Would like to play it again now I've been round it. Course was in good condition and greens rolled well.
