The course itself is stunning with some magnificent holes. I can't think of a single hole which is similar to another which shows great thought when designed.
My favourite hole by a distance was the 10th when I played it (now the 1st). While I think its a shame that they have moved it, it does make it an incredible start to the round with a good drive needed to start, with oob left and a bunker right you need to be accurate, and longer doesn't really mean better with a huge tree in the middle of the fairway on approach a good layup will likely be required.
On top of the great design what really makes this course is the condition of the greens, In this country I am yet to play on better. True and run brilliantly.
Could not recommend this course highly enough. If I lived more locally (its about a 40 minute drive) I would be a member of this club.

Fantastic
A lovely course that is probably better than the description on their official site. Certainly a course of 2 halves with the first 9 having some serious hills both up and down before levelling out for the back 9. Some spectacular holes on the course with the 8th being the stand out for me. Amazing views all over the course tooReviewer Rating

Gem
A gem of a course. Breath taking views on the front 9 only add to the quality of the experience. Lovely undulating fairways can lead you into deep traps that test your ability to escape. The greens are superb, as is the rest of the course.
Although still excellent, the back 9 doesn't quite live up to the front 9.
A couple of long walks between tees, but it's not a major issue.
The hotel is also fantastic & the staff & food very good.
A 'must' stay & play if in the area

You can't rush to the tee - there is a 5 min walk from the practice green to the first tee. The walk between the 9th and 10th is also long, up through the carkpark, and then you have to cross the A34 between the 10th and 11th, and then back between the 17th and 18th. All in all, a lot of distance between greens and next tees. It was a long walk, and hard work carrying. Both rounds were slow, taking around 5hrs.
The hotel was pretty basic - a lovely old house, but our group was put in an annex, with single beds where you could feel every spring and bathrooms heated like saunas. No one got a good night's sleep. Food was very good, but service indifferent - there was a large event taking place on the Saturday night and certain members of staff made it very clear that we were something of an inconvenience for them. I would say they are not well set up for large groups.
In sum, the golf was enjoyable, but there are nicer courses and much better value out there for a 1 Night/2 rounds BBD @ £145pp.

Good challenge with high SS rating and nice friendly pro shop / club house. A little small in the bar area and not too many good value meals around in the bar.
Always worth playing :-)

Just played in the Southern Cup here and was impressed with the course. Quite long and undulating but with big greens and some nasty strategically placed bunkers. Interesting the difference between the slightly fluffy Sunday greens to the freshly mown Monday greens, both ran true but the latter were much, much quicker. And many thanks to the greens staff for the different second day pin positions (not). Only gripe on the course side were the stones in the bunkers, but apart from that it was in spectacular condition for early March. Having said that, the treks over the motorway between the 1st & 2nd, the 8th & 9th and the hike from the 9th to the 10th were a bit of a pain. Hotel was small, friendly and charmingly decaying.Reviewer Rating

Well worth a visit
Nice course, well laid out and great environment - lovely views of the Berkshire Downs. Greens and tee boxes in very good condition. Bunkers a bit gravellly. Lots of bare patches on fairways (common problem this year on many course). Long walk between 9th - 10th and then from 18th back to clubhouse. But still definite worth a visit. Nice course to playReviewer Rating

A long walk ...
Most courses were closed on the day we played, so it was pretty wet but not too bad overall...However Its a long slog in heavy conditions, some very testing par 5's and a lot of walking between holes.
would be keen to play it again when dryer and warmer as greens ran pretty well and would be much better once it drys out

Shocking fall from grace
Returned to Donnington Grove today for the first time in a number of years. I could have cried. It was apparent before I even parked the car that this place has fallen a long long way. The greens are the worst I have ever seen at DG, possibly even the worst in the area now!! Everything was wrong. The burnt out area by the pro shop is a microcosm of the wider area. Neglected and left to ruin, what a shame. I would love to know how such a beautiful golf course can fall in to such a state.Reviewer Rating

Great course
Played it in the autumn after it had rained and the course didn't drain well. However today it was in great nick. One of the more difficult courses, as evidenced by its high SR but, if you ignore that and just enjoy the course, it is great fun!Reviewer Rating
