Fairways not cut

It is not often that you can lose balls on fairways but it happened several times during our round because the fairways appeared to not have been cut for weeks. This combined with so many leaves meant that there was no definition on the course. All the courses in the area have had seriously wet weather over recent weeks but this was by far the worst condition of any that we have played recently. The majority of bunkers appeared to also not have been raked and were full of animal and golfers footprints. Even lift ,clean and place throughout the green could not make this an enjoyable experience. Halfway hut closed.
Staff in the Club House were friendly but food quality was moderate, dry sliced brown bread for the sandwiches, poorly made.

Birthday golf day

The rate for the golf day and the course were fine, everyone enjoyed the challenge. The disappointment came when the food wasn't ready sfter being in for well over half an hour and when it came it was a Rip Off £10 a head for a small bowl of soup and 4 quarter sandwiches, 2 rounds of bread and some bland filling. How anyone can justify charging that defies imagination!! It completely ruined what was a good day out. We play golf all over Cheshire and this was the worst restaurant rip off by a mile.

Lovely course.. pathetic pace of play..

We played here on a Friday afternoon, so had a discounted price for the round. No organisation present as they seem to have crammed in as many groups as possible, as we arrived on the first tee to 3 groups standing there waiting (all fourballs).

So we waited a while to go off, then as soon as we did, giving the group in front at least 10 mins, we still were forced to wait for 5 mins to play our 2nd shots to the green, as the group in front chatted on the green and walked to each other's balls EVERY SINGLE SHOT.

This pattern all the way around till we decided we'd had enough and walked off after the 15th (as did another group in front aswell a few holes back).

To our astonishment we find the group 2 in front have clear traffic in front all the way to the 18th! We were fuming, a disgraceful lack of etiquette at not letting quicker groups behind them through whilst we looked on to see them essentially hacking , more suited to a local muni, than embarrassing themselves around a course of a certain pedigree. To compound it they were in buggies ffs! As we saw them drive back down our fairway to retrieve a cover. Pair of scruffy clowns.

Ruined the whole day, so nearly 5 hrs into the round by the 15th we decided to cut our losses, end the misery and have a beer.

The course is a decent enough challenge for the average golfer with some great holes and some not so fantastic ones. It is in great condition and the greens were spot on. Oh and the ball machine for the driving range is a bit stingy, short changes you balls.

If you're considering grabbing a cheap deal to play here.. don't bother, heed the advice of others and stay clear or be subjected to a 6hrs+ round, play at first thing or wait till the late evening as it's worth a go.

Sort your booking system out and stop cramming loads of people with short intervals.

Not as good as previously

I have played the course a few times before and enjoyed it but when I played it last week the condition of the course was not up to its previous standards.
Tee boxes looked neglected and needed cutting with a large amount of divots on every tee that had not been filled in.
Greens were very slow and I got the impression that the course set up was designed for the mass market of corporate visitors and not to present the course in the best condition it could be.
If you are asking for £50 per round midweek then I would expect better and the whole experience left me with the impression that it was all about 'money'. This feeling was reinforced with a small bottle of water in the pro shop being sold for £2 !!
Will not be rushing back.

For a championship course the fairways were broken grass, bunkers not raked, and the greens were awful with weeds growing out of 15. Other holes were in poor condition, not you would expect and will not be returning. Club house and restaurant are of high standard

Played April 12th & 13th part of a 24 man group stay, main areas of concern were the poor condition os some greens & tees
Many greens had bare patches or even holes especially the 15th green which was awful
Tees were either newly laid or were in such poor condition that it was difficult to find a decent piece of turf to play your tee shot from
If Mottram Hall wants to be to taken seriously has a top notch course to match their prices these areas of concern need some serious attention.
On a positive note the course is a good test especially the back nine with holes 12,13 & 17 especially very difficult par fours.
Tha overnight stay in the hotel was very good, with a great breakfast.

very slow play!!!!

once again I was apauled by the slow pace of play and the lack of common golf etiquette! I think courses like these will benefit greatly by teaching golf etiquette!

Played 09/03/2013, weather had been very wet leading up to playing & rained for the whole round, but with that in mind the course wasn't too boggy, greens were in fairly good condition for this time of year to (played a lot worse!!). We played on a Saturday so expected to find it busy....and it was! Although the starter seemed to do his best to make sure people tee'd off at the correct times, we were still 10-15minutes after our tee-time slot, and were waiting on most tee-boxes for the whole of the front 9. (The round in total took our 4 ball about 4hrs 45mins, so not too bad for a weekend).

Course wise; Very open front 9 and in my opinion in need of some serious planting as it's fairly bland, just not enough features to justify the 'Devere' course name, I play off a 20hcp and shot 45(36) on the front, so would say its not too difficult for the higher handicap.
Back 9 is a very different story, a lot better visually, plenty of trees, water etc, a lot more thought & skill is required in order to get round without pain! Hence I shot 52(36) on the back.....To be honest I quite enjoyed the back 9, which is really what stopped me from giving negative feedback, so bear that in mind when you turn up at the first tee, then at least you know it will get better!

All in all if you can get a decent price for a round here then it's not a bad course, otherwise I would definitely go to other Devere courses, as they are a lot better feature wise, and aesthetically (I've played them all).

(I would also add that the driving range is a good 200yd trek down the side of the first fairway, and I mean at the side, watch out for hooks!!!)
