Excellent, but hilly location

Lovely and interesting course, but it is very hilly. We had buggies which helped and it would be tiring. But whilst short, its very tight, some really lovely holes (especially 11 and 12) and greens were excellent. Plus all staff really friendly.

Uneven in every way.

Firstly, this is a very hilly course, so although it's not that long it's a tough walk. I walked both times I've been but it seemed that most of the others on the course were in buggies. I guarantee you'll wish you had one when you're walking up the 16th.

Unfortunately it's also a uneven course in other ways. I've played here a couple of times now and came away both times with the same impression - it would be a really good course as a 12-14 holer (and as a 9-hole course it could be amazing).

In places it's as good as it gets, in some places it's fair to middling, and a couple of holes are downright poor. I particularly like the run of holes from 2-7 and then again from 11-15. Some holes I really, really, disliked; the 8 in particular (ridiculous design, ugly from the tee, and spoils the course imo) although the 15th and 16th I would also gladly skip if possible. The condition of the course is a bit variable too. In places it's lush and velvety, and in others places a bit patchy and poor. Also, too many tees were off mats for my liking.

This could be a great course, and is now in places, but too many poor holes and a few rough corners drag it down overall.

The welcome from everyone was very good when we arrived but by the time we finished the clubhouse was closed, so I can't really comment on the food and drink as both times I've been here I've not really had the chance to try them out.

Overall a good course, but could be much, much better.

Hidden gem in Chiltern Hills

This is a short, challenging and picturesque course. Being on chalk it is well drained, and it is wooded so you need to play straight. It is hilly, so you feel you've had a good walk at the end of a round. Buggies available, best to book in advance. Lovely clubhouse facilities, and very welcoming staff and members.

Very attractive setting even as you drive in. Nicely setup, nets and putting green at hand, flags colour coded, well signed. Most holes are very attractively tree lined, several are stunning, genuinely bring a Woburn or Brocket Hall to mind. And after a tough summer, fairways are surprisingly lush, greens soft and decently quick.
There are too many short par 4’s, the first in particular needs a rethink. That said, the extreme gradients take care of plenty of holes that might not look a challenge on paper. Greenkeeper needs to be aware that having a walkie talkie on full blast near golfers isn’t a great idea.
Much tidier than Dunstable, good value, doesn’t seem to get too busy, friendly staff. Deserves its lofty ranking on here, will be back.

Fantastic little course, some really interesting holes.

It is very hilly though, so be prepared to play a few shots out of breath.

Will be back!
