What the club says: Situated at the foot of the Chiltern Hills, the course presents a demanding test for the lower handicap but is not so daunting that the higher handicap cannot score well and enjoy the gamewith prudent use of the shots they receive. Water hazards are a distinctivefeature of the course and there is plenty of variety in the character of the holes. Among the many interesting holes is the 15th. It is a 90-degree dogleg to the left with a green guarded by bunkers and water. Even with a good drive the approach shot demands accuracy to give any real chance to par.

Course is getting better and better - don't take notice of reviews saying bunkers are terrible they were post covid lock downs but now properly maintained and the greens have been hollow tined twice a year and sanded properly despite all recent rain they are playing well fairways and tees well maintained - new management driving improvements both on and off the course - clubhouse catering is infinitely better than a year ago - good selection of hot food and snacks, good range of sandwiches and great home made cakes

Getting back to its best

I write this as a member. Some reviews here are quite damning and it is true the course had a period when it was far from its best. The owner has invested in the facility and the greenkeeping staff are now back to full compliment, the catering department replaced and some bar staff changes made. The result is a course that is getting back to its best and hospitality that reflects WTGC's traditional warm welcome with good apres golf food and drink options.

Bunkers still not perfect but mostly weed free and raked (if only all golfers would rake them when they've been in them they would be better still!!) , greens have been treated, hollow tined twice in 22/23 and due again this Autumn and whilst not the quickest now play well, and fairways and rough being cut regularly.

If you are local, have visited before and were disappointed, suggest dropping by to have a look and, hopefully, you will want to give WTGC another chance.

Sam

Nice course, inexpensive especially in evenings, in fabulous condition at present, needs work on its bunkers.

Played well. Bit boggy in areas but overall good. Greens were good. Tees were temp tees but ok
Fairway was ok. Could do with a cut but weather hasn't been great

Disappointing

I was a midweek senior member of this club for about 12 months
I played in some interclub matches and met up with a great bunch of lads.
However, course conditions were very poor, and certainly the worst amongst the other local courses I played

It is such a shame that the course was poorly maintained and any promised course improvements rarely materialised.

During my short time there I regularly experienced weedy/bare greens, uncut tees, very slow repair to storm course damage, weedy bunkers without sand (although this was being addressed by volunteers when I left)

If you have a choice of local courses I would certainly recommend that you give this one a miss.

The course was empty. And once we saw the greens we knew why. Awful greens. Always, a, friendly welcome tho and the Guinness went down a treat.

Going downhill.

As one of the club's nearest to my home I have played at this club as a visitor for a while and as a relative newcomer to golf. It's a flat course with a few challenging holes especially those with raised greens. Lately I have been left disappointed with the condition of the greens which look like they are being neglected. Patchy surfaces, weeds, magpie dug holes not repaired. The fairways are ok though.
As for their websites claim to be a friendly club, I've not experienced any effort from them to be welcoming. Yes, the staff appear to enjoy a laugh and a joke with regulars, but no real effort made to attract visitors. Will be finding elsewhere to play.

Absolutely appalling service!
My husband and I haven't played golf for years and decided we'd get on to our local club for a rusty round.
Never again! Even if someone offered to pay my green fees and carry my bags! Despite patiently waiting for the woman behind the bar to finish serving a customer, she completely ignored us and helped the man behind us! I am still in complete and utter shock at the situation. Even when we walked away and back again, it took her a while to even acknowledge us and then addressed in what can only be described as to make us feel like we were intruding. We felt like we almost had to apologise for being there! A couple of score cards almost chucked in our direction with ZERO guidance and we were dismissed!
I will never return and will actively advise others to go elsewhere.
Had we not been treated like we were, we may have overlooked the sad, sorry state of the course.
I am somewhat bemused this place is still open!

Worst course in the country

Tee boxes worse than some roughs. Fairways hardly cut. Greens not cut well and full of craters in some instances.
