Branston is a tough, tree lined parkland course. Bordered by the River Trent.
With water featuring on 13 holes and the river never far away, bring extra balls.
The difficulty is added too by a 604 yard par 5 (8th) and several 400+ yard par 4's. And the last must be mentioned, a fairly short Par4, it is tight, lined with ditches both sides, trees also run the length of the fairway and to top it off there is water surrounding the green on 3 sides, with the clubhouse patio and OB at the rear. Easy....
Making a score needs good long tee shots, not always with a driver and accurate shots to tricky and undulating greens, The greens can be excellent, but the last 2 years has seen them suffer due to some flooding, this has caused them to require some remedial work. But the club has recently invested in its own micro-tiner and a green iron, initial results are very good and they are hopeful that the greens will be up to past glories, if we get a decent dry spell. Here's hoping.....
Price wise, the course is a little pricey, but as a members guest, it's £16 a round and £20 at weekends.
The clubhouse and bar are excellent, with very good food and a choice of local real ales or draught lagers (they've just added San Miguel).
And there is very little finer, than sitting on the patio overlooking the 18th, watching fellow golfers choke and knock their 2nd shots in the water. Again.
