Tees and greens in excellent condition. The bunkers could still do with clearing of the stones.

Greens pretty true despite very hot and dry conditions. Twilight price of 10 pounds was a bargain.

Very busy for a twilight. Fairways and greens in great condition. Some of the tee boxes are temporary whilst they are putting new ones in. Brilliant value on a twilight after 4 at £9.99

There's been a lot of negative reviews about Birchwood in recent times so I was reluctant to book this on a Wednesday morning. But needs must and as ever the pace of play was very slow, we didn't approach anywhere near five hours but 4 hours 20 minutes is still long for a midweek two ball on this course. The fact is that Birchwood consistently overbooks teetimes, and the course simply looks overplayed, although the greens remain good as ever.

What really rankles though is the fact that the starter initially indicated that we would be paired up with another two ball as it was peak time and they are aware of the pace of play problem. Our other two ball didn't turn up - if they were ever meant to because there seemed to be plenty of other two balls on the course. However, by the 5th hole we spotted a single player marching up the previous fairway, who we eventually let through, no problem. But how does this sit with the management's professed policy of this being a 4-ball course? If it's really that busy - and there was a society ahead of us too - why let one person on the course? The answer is simple - money. Birchwood will never turn down cash, to the detriment of the course and the enjoyment of golfers.

I should also mention the sharp practice of the website we booked this through. On the website it looked like the whole morning was free - hence why I took a chance on playing here. But those online teetimes are just there for show - as we were told at the course if we had rung direct they would have said there was a society and recommended a different tee time.

I can't say don't play Birchwood as it does have some good holes and the greens are good. But you have to accept it is overplayed and rounds are slow.

Gave Birchwood another go but once again slow play ruins the day. Had an "older gentlemen" three-ball in front of us(we were a two-ball) and despite spending sometimes up to 5/10 mins searching for lost balls refused to wave us through. This started on the third hole and continued through the full 18. On the 15th There were 3 groups waiting on the tee whist they looked for yet another lost ball 50 yds on the left.. Ludicrous.

Retired to the bar after a 5hr, 45min round only to be met with a massive queue, groups ordering tea and coffee (For petes sakes - just make them an instant coffee!!), two bar staff and then one actually left the bar to collect glasses!!

We left and went to the Coach and Horses down the road.

Our final visit, will not be going back again. A shame as the course was in fairly good condition.

Good for short game

The course isn't very inspiring but it's a great little one for practising your short game. Dragged two 10 year olds around and it was enough for them.
The greens were wonderul for a little pitch and put course. Will definitely go back.

Exspencive course struggling to be something it's not

The course is trying to be a country club the facilities support this but the course comes up short. Bare lies on fairways and around the greens makes a round here a bit of a lottery and the greens often slightly raised into the teeth if the wind are cut to fast. It's unnerving trying to put when the balls rocking and rolling in the wind and the bunkers are really inconsistent.

Nice improvements since we last played

They continue to make noticeable improvements around this course. The bunkers are undergoing work at the moment. With the rubber base it needs a decent amount of sand, which was not the case on a few bunkers I visited. That aside, continues to look good and play well.

Don't fear this course

Not sure why the yellow tee course has slope rating of 125. felt this gave me a more generous handicap than perhaps required, resulting in a 40 point score. The 15th is a tricky hole if you are offline with tee shot as there is no idea where it goes.
Lovely clubhouse, though parking spaces were all taken due to number of activities going on

Played on a society day. Well looked after by the club. Course in decent condition and a good challenge as usual. Greens a bit furry so a little slow but roll well enough so long as you give it a hit. Enjoyable day.
