Fairways & Tboxes
Both fairways & T. Boxes are in poor condition.More sand than grass on T box.
& more stones than sand in bunkers.
It's a nice course to play, but for the money could be better looked after.

Highly impressed
After the heavy rain we had a couple of days ago I was not expecting to see a course in such good condition . Greens were very good , bunkers were all playable and raked . I was amazed to see that there were people out there cutting the grass on the fairways also . A really pleasant experienceReviewer Rating

Very nice track
Played here not expecting too much to be honest as I’d seen and heard very mixed reviews but can honestly say that the greens are as good as you’ll find at a pay and play in January and there is no mess or mud on the fairways . Tees are in decent nick but could use some more tlc . All in all would recommend highlyReviewer Rating

Needs attention
This is a lovely course and decent challenge from the back tees. A typical, open parkland course but scores are needed on the front 9 as the back 9 is very unforgiving. However, this course is in decline in the last year or so. It looks like they have given up with the bunkers; can't be bothered about the tee boxes; obviously have so many people playing they don't even bother to mention to replace divots on fairways or pitch marks on greens. This is a good course but the maintenance is negligible. Where are the people in charge?(Round played: Aug 2021 - Score: 87 Handicap: 13)

questionable condition
I have played this course for a lot of years and seen the ups and downs. We are now very much in a down phase - the bunkers have not been raked since before lockdown; the greens are like concrete in April - where is the watering? there is little fairway definition and the tee boxes appear very scruffy. At this time, it is hard to recommend playing here.Reviewer Rating

Good choice
Not played here for a while as rounds were getting very slow, but a Sunday afternoon went round in 4 hours and even then had a few waits on the tee, so a very pleasant surprise! Greens good, tee boxes not in great shape. Fairways running fast.(Round played: Jul 2020 - Score: 95 Handicap: 23.3)

What really rankles though is the fact that the starter initially indicated that we would be paired up with another two ball as it was peak time and they are aware of the pace of play problem. Our other two ball didn't turn up - if they were ever meant to because there seemed to be plenty of other two balls on the course. However, by the 5th hole we spotted a single player marching up the previous fairway, who we eventually let through, no problem. But how does this sit with the management's professed policy of this being a 4-ball course? If it's really that busy - and there was a society ahead of us too - why let one person on the course? The answer is simple - money. Birchwood will never turn down cash, to the detriment of the course and the enjoyment of golfers.
I should also mention the sharp practice of the website we booked this through. On the website it looked like the whole morning was free - hence why I took a chance on playing here. But those online teetimes are just there for show - as we were told at the course if we had rung direct they would have said there was a society and recommended a different tee time.
I can't say don't play Birchwood as it does have some good holes and the greens are good. But you have to accept it is overplayed and rounds are slow.

Retired to the bar after a 5hr, 45min round only to be met with a massive queue, groups ordering tea and coffee (For petes sakes - just make them an instant coffee!!), two bar staff and then one actually left the bar to collect glasses!!
We left and went to the Coach and Horses down the road.
Our final visit, will not be going back again. A shame as the course was in fairly good condition.

Sad course
The golf course has declined over the past few years. I Suppose the bottom line is it makes money so things won't change. The golf course is in shocking condition and gives the impression nobody cares booking is also joke. Is it being run down to sell for housing. So mock money wasted on treble bunkers. Ruins your irons with the stones and ridicules rubber base . Very sadReviewer Rating

Getting better
I played here in June with a friend and was horribly underwhelmed . Last week we both decided to try again as it is a local track to us and we have enjoyed it when we’ve played in years past and was glad to see improvements . Greens were a little slow as they had been tined but did roll very well , tees were far better than what we found in June and there was just a nicer look to the whole place . It was nice to see it getting better againReviewer Rating

A little disappointed
A sunny warm day and just a little breeze - should have been a perfect day's golf. The greens were in the final stages of tinning, ran slower but can see they will be in great shape in a few weeks. The tees were poor and to many of the bunkers had only a thin layer of sand on top of the rubber base. whether its been the weather, but there is a lot of barren areas on the fairways and the fringes of most greens. Disappointed with the overall condition and (currently) overpriced for what it delivers.Reviewer Rating
