Course in pretty good condition given the winter and the greens continue to be excellent.

What really rankles though is the fact that the starter initially indicated that we would be paired up with another two ball as it was peak time and they are aware of the pace of play problem. Our other two ball didn't turn up - if they were ever meant to because there seemed to be plenty of other two balls on the course. However, by the 5th hole we spotted a single player marching up the previous fairway, who we eventually let through, no problem. But how does this sit with the management's professed policy of this being a 4-ball course? If it's really that busy - and there was a society ahead of us too - why let one person on the course? The answer is simple - money. Birchwood will never turn down cash, to the detriment of the course and the enjoyment of golfers.
I should also mention the sharp practice of the website we booked this through. On the website it looked like the whole morning was free - hence why I took a chance on playing here. But those online teetimes are just there for show - as we were told at the course if we had rung direct they would have said there was a society and recommended a different tee time.
I can't say don't play Birchwood as it does have some good holes and the greens are good. But you have to accept it is overplayed and rounds are slow.

All two-balls are being paired together with strangers to create four-balls which is unsatisfactory in my opinion.

So lots of players all turn up at the same time
with identical tee off times
Also members appear not to book and just turn up at the first tee

The amount of golfers that are crammed into the morning sessions is ridiculous. After playing the first hole we looked back to the tee to see that around 20 golfers were waiting to tee off.
Nice course. Ignorant course management.
