Long parkland course
Enjoyable layout with intelligent bunker positions. Played in the summer so the ball rolled a long way, often downhill away from where you wanted. So strategy off the tee was very important. The greens were in very great condition and even paced. Good clubhouse and friendly staff. Paid £35 which was fair value. One petty point; avoid the coffee, £2.50 for tiny mug of sludge. Ignoring that we'll be back.Reviewer Rating

Challenging across the board
Surrey National is a long sloping course that even the fittest would find hard work. The first hole gives you a flavour of what to expect. A straight hole sloping right to left means a less than accurate shot shoots you off onto the fairway of the 2nd just from the roll away. Undulating greens make less than 2 putts hard and unseen hazards make ball loss likely. It's one to try if you need more challenge, but for the high handicapper expect a tough day.Reviewer Rating

Great for the average player.
Course conditions ok as it’s winter and the greens were punched.
Looking forward to going back in the summer.

Gone downhill massively
I used to play here quite a bit. It was an exceptionally good public course, offering value as well as a decent track that was in reasonable condition.Covid happened and the green fees went from a fair £30-40 to £50-70. Even at winter when I played recently we were charged £50 despite it being a Thursday and non-bank holiday (apparently the club treats it as such). The course was in horrendous condition and should not have been open. It was a real 'trudge in the sludge' through the Surrey clay. I understand that clay means it is always likely to be wetter during winter but when your ball is plugging in the fringe of a green - which is basically thick mud - then you really should have the course shut.
However, the money grabbing owners are more interested in £ in the door since Covid and could not care about the course and it's conditions. £50 to play a course in appalling condition that I would not pay £50 to play in the height of summer.
To top it off the pace of play was very slow, we were constantly behind people on the tee and it took nearly 5 hours to get around. We teed off at 11 and finished in the gloom and dark.
Overall I would have rated this a good 4/5 a few years ago, then last year that went down to 3/5 as the course had deteriorated with people playing and it will only get worse in the coming months as people play on a course that should be shut.
I will not bother playing again, and will avoid the other courses managed by the same firm for the same reasons. There are many others (Reigate Hill nearby for example) which offer a good round at a reasonable rate and with a proper golfing environment.

Lovely course, shame about the organisation
Booked a 10:56 tee off only to arrive and be told that we were now teeing off at 11:30 due to additional groups being squeezed in. Pace of play was fair but we were constantly being told to hurry up. Had they not have put so many people out it would have been a much nicer experience.Reviewer Rating
