The Most Difficult 1st Holes in the UK

Getting off to a good start is often vital for a successful round, but that can be easier said than done at certain courses. Two-time Masters champion Ben Crenshaw famously said that the Old Course at St Andrews begins and ends with two friendly handshakes, but there are many layouts that greet you with a knuckle-crushing grip.
We love a good stat and there is a vast collection of data within the Golfshake Score Tracker, which has enjoyed record demand since the game resumed following the height of lockdown in May. After looking at the Most Difficult 18th Holes in the UK, we have flipped that around to identify the Most Difficult 1st Holes in the UK, those tricky openers that have challenged a fair number of the Golfshake Community.
Analysing 2020 rounds added since the game returned post-lockdown, these scores have been measured from rounds between 68 and 110 by golfers with handicaps between 5 and 23, with at least 30 rounds having been tracked on that particular course during that limited period.
