What the club says: Founded in 1920, Hillsborough Golf Club is widely regarded as one of the top courses in Sheffield and, according to the members, Hillsborough has the toughest opening three holes in the country.
The first is 400-yards plus uphill with out-of-bounds to the left; the second is a neat par three with what can only be descried as an outrageous slope from back to front while the third features a hard to hit, narrow fairway. Not the easiest of starts by any means.
The course, which sits roughly 500 feet above sea level, features undulating fairways which are often susceptible to high winds, making some holes very difficult.

Nice course in good condition. Good challenge for all standards.Pro shop helpful and informative.
Food average, and had to wait too long for it. Steward was dismissive of our enquiries and generally not very helpful or friendly. Appeared to be too busy talking to his very loud mates in smaller bar, to serve not only us, but other persons.
Go and play the course but don't bother with clubhouse.

Hilly course but some very testing and interesting holes. Need to place your shots and keep your drives straight on most holes. Will come again, but it is best in summer.

Great course in need of attention.
Hillsborough was once a beautiful and challenging course which we always looked forward to playing. Unfortunately whenever we have played here in the last few years the course condition has been quite poor indeed, which is a shame as there are some great holes. US open wide fairways ????
Greens in excellent condition rolling better than any other local course I've played this year. Enjoyment level reduced due to exceptionally tight fairways. Some of the fairways only have a 10-15 yard landing area due to the underlations of the ground. Please Mr head greenkeeper and greens committee make them a bit wider and playable.Final note, how is the SSS 68 off the yellows??
May sound like a bit of a rant but would recommend ????

A good challenge for anyone
The first hole here is a strong test of driving ability up a steep hill, followed by a par 3 and then another difficult hole. This is a challenging course which can tear you to pieces or let you birdie a few. Well worth the trip if you like a course with a few tight fairways and some interesting views.Reviewer Rating

Society day
What a course the staff r very polite n very helpful the breakfast was great 1 of the best we have had as a society n to the course the first 3 holes r very hard then the rest of the course not to bad the fairways were in great condition n the greens were brilliant in fact they r the best I have played on all year they were very fast n true if u want a good challenge go n have a game u won’t be disappointed(Round played: Sep 2019 - Score: 80 Handicap: 8.3)

Very good condition

Great course, pity about the rest
Believe me this course is lovely and really interesting to play. Some great holes with nicely planned approaches and tree lined greens. I would certainly love to play it again .. but .. some issues would make me wary. They were playing off mats, but didn't have enough for our group; the clubhouse was run down and no food available; members complaining we weren't on the tee five mins before their comp because the Pro was trying to find mats. We watched members playing off the fairways without using mats which was disrespectful to such a lovely course. We will definitely return, but hoping for a better experience.Reviewer Rating

Hilly, fantastic views

Tough Day
Fantastic course and about 50 on the stimp meter!! A course that needs your constant attention from tee to hole, no let up for getting on the greens in regulation!!(Round played: Aug 2018 - Score: 121 Handicap: 26.7)
