Golfshake Prize Winners Experience Acclaimed UK Venues

By: Golfshake Editor | Wed 08 Jan 2020

The Golfshake Course Section is a valuable resource that is packed with over 200,000 independent reviews submitted by Golfshake Members, providing a rich library of information. Last year, we decided to thank the Golfshake Community for creating this database of ratings and opinion, joining forces with Golfbreaks.com to offer three incredible prizes.

Golfers simply had to leave a course review on the website during the autumn, or subscribe to the Golfshake Travel Newsletter, for a chance to claim one of three golf breaks to an acclaimed venue in the UK, including an overnight stay, dinner and breakfast, and two rounds of golf.

Weeks later, having experienced their destinations, our winning golfers have responded with their feedback.

Golfshake Member Nick had a great time visiting Staverton Park, which is located just 30 minutes from Birmingham Airport, a regular host to Regional, County and Midlands PGA Events.

Nick reflected: "Myself and my friends had a cracking weekend at Staverton Park. The course was in excellent condition, especially the greens & fairways considering all the rain we’ve had recently.

"This is the first golf break I’ve been on. I was overjoyed to have won such a great prize, as although I like to play regularly, the finances and family life don’t often allow for a whole weekend of golfing!

"The hotel was of a great standard, rooms were clean and comfortable, the food was fantastic with a good choice to satisfy everyone’s appetite. The staff were welcoming and even offered us a discount on drinks in the hotel! We didn’t get chance to use the leisure facilities as we were too busy on the course.

"The course was a great challenge, greens were in excellent condition for the winter months as were the fairways. There were some interesting holes that tested our abilities. We definitely plan on returning in the summer for a drier round of golf!"

Located in South London, known for its luxury country house hotel and celebrated for its 18-hole course designed by five-time Open Championship winner J.H. Taylor, Golfshake Member Martin had the opportunity to spend time at Selsdon Park.

"We had a great weekend. Friendships renewed and an all round great time," he said.

"Thanks to Golfshake for the surprise of this trip away with three of my close mates! Great time, great course and great banter, especially in the bar on the first evening after some questionable play during the first round of golf. Stay over was pleasant and comfortable with a full English breakfast in the morning to deal with the excess of the night before. A great couple of days, we are now going to make this an annual excursion, rotating the organiser!"

Finally, Golfshake Member Mark and his companions visited Berkshire's Wokefield Park, which enjoys a prime spot in Reading and is celebrated for its immaculately maintained championship-standard layout.

Looking back at his stay, Mark said: "The spa facilities were excellent with a 25 metre pool, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. Which actually really helped with our aching muscles!

"The hotel was superb with comfortable modern rooms and friendly staff. The food was also very good with a varied evening menu and excellent buffet breakfast in the morning!

"We very much enjoyed the course, despite the wetness. It had taken on a lot of rain in the weeks leading up so was understandably very boggy in places and only pull trolleys with hedgehog wheels were allowed. The course was quite rolling, but not long, so very manageable walking wise. The greens were a good size and rolled very well considering the time of year and weather it had endured.

"But overall, it was a very enjoyable weekend and couldn't really fault anything."

So, our golfers relished their time at these venues, which could be destinations for you to consider in 2020. And don't forget, if you are playing new courses across the country this year, then leave a review on Golfshake, and subscribe to our Travel Newsletter for the latest deals and offers for venues in the UK and beyond.
