New hotel and golf course is coming to the South of England

You will often see stories published online about golf courses closing, it's engaging content with a shock value that naturally draws attention, but how about a venue being reborn and given a new lease of life?

That's exactly what golfers living near Boarstall, on the county border between Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, will soon be about to experience.

It was back in 2020, during those dark days of the first COVID lockdown, when Magnolia Park Hotel & Golf Club had closed its doors, never to reopen them, until now, that is.

Following months of renovations, the Oxford Mail has reported that the rechristened Bernwood Park Hotel, near the M40, is due to open this summer.

It's stated that the new hotel will offer an 18-hole golf course, restoring Magnolia Park to its former glory, an appealing wellness experience for guests, a delectable restaurant, and even dog friendly rooms.

Bespoke Hotels, the largest independent hotel group in the UK, is the company behind these plans, with the redevelopment seeing the welcome return of a layout that was originally designed by Jonathan Gaunt.

New Golf Course

If you turn back the clock to when the course was previously accessible, the reviews on Golfshake were extremely positive, as these comments submitted by everyday golfers demonstrate:

"Magnolia is a very friendly and welcoming venue. The staff are amazing and very accommodating too. Would strongly recommend this course for those who want a nice day out."

"Very good, interesting course, good greens and good reception."

"This is a very nice course. Lots of interesting holes which give you a few decisions to make. A smattering of water adds even more interest. Overall, it's in good condition. The greens are good, not the fastest (unless you get on the top tier of the 8th green putting downhill, that bit is lightning!) but true. A really good test of golf without being unnecessarily punishing."

"What a lovely course. Tees and greens were spot on, fairways cut nicely and the rough is brutal (stay clear). Some very interesting hole layouts."

"Great course. First time playing this course, didn’t have a great round but I will say it’s a challenging course, I will go back to better my score."

It now appears that golfers will soon have the opportunity to make a comeback to experience the course, with the added bonus of new accommodation facilities to go alongside it.

The return of Magnolia Park - now Bernwood - is to be welcomed and we look forward to seeing just how successful this rebirth can be.
