New Gender Equal Tour Launched in North of England

By: Golfshake Editor | Thu 05 Dec 2019

The 2020protour has been officially launched for 2020, making history as the UK's first gender equal pro circuit with an equitable policy. Established by European Tour player Chris Hanson and fellow pro Adam Walker, this new tour is set to make waves across the North of England next year.

Born from long-term conversations, the spark came during the Spanish Open at Madrid, when the pair - Adam was caddying for Chris that week - decided to transform their idea into something more formal.

Men and women will compete in the same events on the same course for the one prize fund, with the female golfers playing the layout at 11% shorter, earning money and points that will go towards the one order of merit.

Entrants will pay £99 to participate in each of the one day tournaments, the requisite green fee will be deducted from that, with everything else being added to the one pot, ensuring that the players are essentially competing for their own money.

LET star Carly Booth said: “It’s great to finally see a tour that caters for all professional golfers. A tour for men and women is exactly the kind of platform that offers all aspirational golf pros a place to compete and develop their games.

"I’m super excited that the 2020protour has come round and it’s well overdue.”

Amateur golfers with a handicap of two or less will also have the opportunity to play in the events, competing alongside professionals, gaining invaluable experience.

Yorkshire amateur player, Tom Broxup added: “As amateurs we can only really half measure our games with the pros. We can only ever go on scores, however the 2020protour not only gives us the opportunity to play with pros, it also gives us chance to compete and interact with the pros.

These players have lived our dream, so the opportunity to play against them is a welcome challenge for us, without 2020protour this wouldn’t be possible."

There are 23 events scheduled for next season, beginning on Monday 24th February at Huddersfield Golf Club, running until October, with the Tour Finals at the same venue. Other courses to be featured include Rockliffe Hall, Fulford, Howley Hall and Moor Allerton.

With a slogan of "putting the players first", the groundbreaking 2020protour is set to provide equal opportunities for men and women in the UK, a chance to be part of highly competitive tournaments, potentially establishing a platform for golfers who could later emerge on the European Tour or Ladies European Tour.
