Average course, needs investment

I have only played the Baroness course which is the easier of the 2, the course is well layed out but the greens are patchy in areas and could do with some extra care

Tee boxes and greens in horrendous condition throughout the entire Baron course. £25 green fee is £20 too much in its current condition

Played the Baroness, probably the worst course we have ever played on. Booked a tee off time, arrived to start next to a derelict building to find a group that had arrived without booking and told they could go straight out.

So they essentially had our tee off time, and whilst they were setting up a 4 ball arrived behind to queue up - this now meant we tee'ed off at the group behind us tee time, and they went off on the previous and so on. It was so busy, the first 9 holes took 2 hours and 20 minutes simply because they ignored the tee time booking system and let people go straight out and play at the same time as booked tee times.

It became really dull to play with ten minute waits at the tee, and then 10 minute waits on the fairway after the drive, and then ten minute waits after the following iron shot approaching the green - then repeat on the next hole and so on.

The greens were more large sand bunkers - which meant putting had about as much skill as blackjack. Ball was going anywhere the uneven surface took it.

All in all, a dreadful experience - first time we have given up mid game. Poor greens and a tee booking system that is redundant. Compared to other local courses this seemed run down and neglected, but perhaps that is why it is so cheap for a green fee. We shall not be returning.

Simply appalling! We were told about loads of temp greens due to the excessive rainfall we have had! Funny, I don't seem to remember a huge amount of rain recently! Served by a very friendly efficient young lady at check in. It was all downhill from there, the most unkept place we had been to, it got so bad we laughed in the end!
We teed off on the 1st with an absolute dump of a building as a back drop, broken & rotten windows to boot. What a welcome!
Course was ok, could be really good but very poor condition in all areas throughout. Just smacks of a lack of investment and no care for the place.
At least they sell good beers.
However, probably not enough to entice us back. All in all a shame.

Disaster zone!
Everything unloved, staff unfriendly, golf course needs blowing up as condition is the worst we had seen for a long time.
Good changing rooms but dirty.
Highly unlikely to visit again.

Played the Baron for 1st time this year. Have to say the improvements are amazing. Greens used to be patchy but now really good coverage, true & fairly pacey.
Fairways pretty good considering no fairway watering. Rough was penal so I suppose higher handicappers wouldn't like it too much but we loved it. You do need to get a line on your ball if going into the rough as it can take a while to find a ball but this didn't detract from our game in any way.
Enjoyed a beer after but didn't eat as they were catering for a large wedding but will return to play the course again & sample the food. Well worth a visit for the green fee rate of £28.50 on a Saturday morning.

Decided to play here after hearing it had vastly improved under new management and heavy investment in the two courses. In short, glad we did.

We were informed the moment we arrived that there were temp greens on one course and seamlessly moved to the other. (I've been to some courses and they wouldn't tell you before you had paid the green fee- we played the Baron). The Baron is a thoroughly decent course comparable with any in the Mid Beds/N Herts area. Good mix of differing holes, over a bit of flat then undulating ground, good views to be had on the back 9. It was a bit boggy but I accept that the club is openly admitting this and working hard to improve conditions.
Food and service in clubhouse/shop is as good as anywhere, the driving range is close to the first tee/s, changing facilities are excellent.

The golf is good and getting better. Give it a try.

Played on Saturday and we really enjoyed the course. We played the Baron as there was a big members event on the Baroness.
Course is long and a good test for us as we are fairly high handicappers but we thoroughly enjoyed it. Greens had just been slit and actually putted better than they looked but I suppose the work has to be done to help keep them good?
Great value for money and you could see lots of work has been put in over the winter to help push it forward. We also got a loyalty card given to us so if we play 6 times we get a free game, we will certainly look to get the card filled quickly!
Bar was really busy as the members event had finished when we arrived and there was a real buzz in there. Will definitely return!

The pool, I mean course, was very wet and boggy. But was very well presented considering the weather we've had of late. No leaves on the fairways or greens.
With a few winter greens and only one temporary tee. Was good value for the money. Can't wait to visit again. In better weather. We had hail and heavy rain. Quite windy too. But that didn't stop us from enjoying the course.
Very good welcome and service in the pleasant, clean, shop.
Booked tee time on line. Was very impressed that I received a phone call notifying me about the temp tees

Played Saturday and even though it was windy we really enjoyed our game. Were told by friends that the courses are like a bog in winter but apparently they have worked on drainage and it showed as The Baroness was pretty dry, especially considering how much rain we have had recently. Greens on slow side but nothing you wouldn't expect for time of year. Didn't stay for long in the bar as they were setting up for a big xmas party but seemed friendly and efficient in there. Really looking forward to playing again especially in the spring.

Played last week for the first time in about a year. I used to be a member but left as the place kept going down hill. However, what a transformation! From the drive in you could see an improvement with the general appearance much better in the eye. We popped in for a bite to eat which was good value for money & most importantly was well cooked & very tasty. The icing on the cake was Doombar on draught!

However, the best was yet come. The Baroness course was so much better in every aspect. Tee boxes nicely cut & no grass clippings left on them. A definition between the rough & fairway was now evident and the greens although slightly slow were very true with good grass coverage. I bumped into a green keeper (Steve) who informed us that the place was under new management and focusing on golf again and there are many plans to continue the improvement. Well if they do then I shall be rejoining next year, please keep up the good work!

Played Baron course, very good test and hadn't played here since last season when it was really poor. Coverage on greens was really good on most greens. Fairways were good and rough was consistent in most places. Tee boxes were amazing although some were slightly uneven.
Really enjoyable day and we will return especially for to sample another burger like we had today!!
