Tight layout and challenging; greens need work
The RAC Club is a a club that comes with some stature and has two courses to play. The Coronation course is shorter and very tight with some rather silly internal out of bounds regions. It is a fairly testing layout with very narrow fairways and heavily sloping greens. The Old course is by far better but both courses have poor greens. They look quite quick but were deathly slow when I played and were quite inconsistent in their overall pace.(Round played: Jul 2019 - Score: 76 Handicap: 3.3)

Course far improved
Good game yesterday and the course is playing well. Continued gripe though that there's no open half way house or roaming food/drink buggy. This would be welcomed by golfers and would be a good revenue stream too for the club. An occasional marshall would be useful too to encourage people to speed up play.Reviewer Rating

The buildings are truly suberb but unfortunately once you have left the confines of the fantastic locker rooms it all goes down hill.
The course (old) is supposedly the better of the 2, but i have not played the Coronation so i cannot comment.
The lay out is far to up and back in places with fairways running parallel. This is understandable in an area where land is as expensive as Epsom but doesnt make for a great course.
The elevation changes are poorely managed with both blind up and down hill shots where there could be superb appetising aproaches and intersting tee shots.
The course was in excellent condition it has to be said, it is just a boring lay out.
I came away very dissapointed with the course and the money that we had paid for the green fee. However it isnt just about the course when you play here.
I would never put this course anywhere near the top 100 and i will not be going back to play again it when there are so many excellent courses in the area.
i just hope that other true reviewers have reviewed the course and not the surrondings !

Former European Tour venue and you can see why
Back in the 80s the Old Course at the RAC hosted the likes of Seve and you can see why. A long course (although maybe not by today's standards) the uphill holes play into the wind making for quite a challenge. The bunkering is very challenging for longer hitters from the back tees but it is the greens where you get found out. The undulations are the like that you normally only ever see on a links course. The greens weren't particularly quick but they can't be given how sloping they are. Many greens are enormous and three putts are common place. There are a fair few short par 4 holes where scores can be made but this is a tough track. It was enjoyable to play, teh second time i have played it. I think this is the sort of place you need to play a few times to get to grips with it.Reviewer Rating

Deceptively good
Woodcote Park has slick, undulating greens (we went in late November), deceptive bunkering making for difficult reading of length onto the putting putting surface, and lots of height variation. A top-quality design by Herbert Fowler. Some drives are a bit shapeless and trees are not used to full effect (The Berkshire, for example, does it better) but the shot variety, quality of putting surfaces and fine Surrey views make up for these few drawbacks. We had a very entertaining round, followed by superb hospitality in the RAC's grand country retreat.Reviewer Rating

Coronation course
Played yellow tees on a golf day after heavy rain. Some fairways muddy (but playable) tee boxes and greens (still fast) and in top condition. Course plays longer than the card with some elevations. No water hazards but lots of bunkers in top condition. much serious rough.Posh - but friendly- and everything you could want in the clubhouse.
Will come back - I have friends who are members - but you can only get in with a member or on a golf day.
Get here early to park close to the clubhouse!
