What the club says: When Tyrrells Wood Golf Club was formed in 1924, the original course had been designed by five times Open Champion James Braid, one of the most respected and prolific course designers of his day. Improvements were also designed by Harry Colt. Although the course has undergone continuous improvement over the years, care has been taken to preserve Braid's unique approach to green and bunker design.

Tyrrells Wood is located on the edge of the North Downs and in common with much of the area has a chalk subsoil, which provides extremely good drainage. The typical downland nature of the area was transformed by the substantial tree planting programme implemented in the late 19th century, to provide a unique downland / parkland character.

So enjoyable.

I really had lots of fun playing here.

Some tight holes from the tee but as its not the longest you can navigate yourself around without having to hit driver on every hole.

The trees will come into play if you are wayward but they are fair. The green are super and if you miss them you need to do it in the right place.

Bunkers superb, views are stunning and given some of the other courses in the area this really does hold its own.

Fantastic course

Tight fairways with bunkers well placed around small fast greens makes this a good test of golf . This is a course that requires good course management .

Hidden Gem

Played the course for the first time today, what a wonderful experience, some stunning holes & stunning views, accurate driving & iron play needed to small well protected greens. Greens & tees were in excellent condition, fairways tight & well manicured. A GEM!!

Absolutely wonderful setting and a tactical golf course in beautiful condition. The tees and fairways are superb with downhill drives to undulating greens. Fantastic, easily one of my favourites even if it is not the longest.

Amazing weather, amazing course

Lovely Course, tricky in some parts, but a great course overall! Watch out for the blind 1st tee shot! I hit what i thought was a great drive and completely lost the ball once we got down the hill! weird!!

I am an Academy member and will likely take full memberships from June 2019. The course is a picture at the moment & will be even better when the various improvement works have been completed.

Disappointed

Have played some great courses in Surrey but I do not feel it’s even in the top ten, layout wise has some nice holes but nothing special, condition was ok but that’s all and certainly not amazing for the Surrey area that can charge a small fortune for membership. Food however was great and a well stocked pro shop

Well worth a visit, fantastic course

Great course, bit hilly, but loved the walk in nice weather. Some difficult pin positions, but the layout was excellent!

A friendly golf club with history and character. The course spans over rolling hills that provide some stunning views. The hills can make for tricky lie so concentration and accuracy is a must. The course is well maintained, with good greens, and drainage is aided by its chalk base.
