Tricky course considering it was my 1st time playing it. A few blind tee shots which was a little daunting. Was quite wet underfoot in places which wasn't surprising considering the amount of rain that we've had over the last week. Some magnificent views from around the course.
There was a mix up over the green fees which was soon sorted out by Walter in the Pro shop. Friendly catering staff and good food also. Will definitely play the course again in summer where the course will be even better.

The course, whilst not looking particularly impressive on paper, is a real gem. The card does not do it justice at all. The greens were absolutely superb; fast, true, smooth and hideously tricky. The fairways and tee beds were also in excellent condition. However, the course is hard. There are many blind tee shots to play and I would suggest that there is no such thing as a flat lie at Wilpshire. Pretty much every hole is on a slope, aside from the par 3's, a couple of which are too long for comfort and have greens defended by water.
The facilities are admittedly basic, and the clubhouse is pretty dead (although a great pint of Thwaites is served here), but it is what it is: a provincial golf club with a hardcore of wealthy members making their money off society days, and with a membership that demands that the course is kept in an excellent condition.
I can recommend this course as a decent test of golf: not long, but tricky, hilly, undulating, yet well kept and with some of the finest views the county of Lancashire has to offer. Today you could see all the way out to the Fylde Coast, Blackpool Tower, Pendle, Blackburn, Darwen Tower... just stunning. You may have discounted the course after reading the card, but it is certainly worth a go. I certainly enjoyed it.

Short but tough
Wonderful little course, not a long course but has tricky greens and blind tee shots...Good course management is vital. Amazing views across Lancashire on a clear day. Seems to play much tougher than the Par 69 suggests. If you haven’t played this course it is well worth a visit. As for people marking it down low on the reviews...Most courses in Lancashire are wet and very boggy in the Winter months...What do you expect.

Nice course, worth playing
Always enjoy playing Wilpshire, first time I've played it in a strong wind, this makes it a tough course to score on. Bit open to the elements so some holes become difficult but if your game if not going well you can still admire the great views the course offers. Course in great condition, green smooth and fairly quick. Great food in clubhouse.(Round played: Apr 2019 - Score: 79 Handicap: 5.3)
