I rang the pro shop to check the best time to play, and he was very helpful advising me that the shop is closed Mondays.\Arrived early on a Wednesday for a 11am tee time the bar and catering was open (very nice lounge) bacon sandwich and tea ordered (excellent) very helpful and pleasant staff.\The course:\I can\'t say enough excellent, excellent, excellent, parkland and moorland fairways tight (you don\'t have to be long but you must be straight), greens bang on, quick, true and tricky. There a 5 par 3\'s all of which are tricky, 2 par 5\'s, one downhill the ninth and the 10th back up the hill.\After completing our round we retired to the bar where our meal was once again excellent, the members polite and interested on our views of their course! Overall a very enjoyable day of golf and socialising was had by our fourball, which I might say can\'t wait to go back and play on a sunny windless day.

Excellent course. Unfortunatley greens had been recently ariated and were very uneven and bobbly making putting a lottery.

Very nice course with some excellent views, in very good condition despite all the rain, and fast smooth greens. Made to feel very welcome by the guy in the club shop and members all seemed very friendly.
Enjoyed the experience and will go back to play soon.

Wilpshire is the course where my father is a member and which was local to my parental home whilst growing up, so it was with some trepidation that I approached it today. First off, the pro shop was closed upon arrival, and remained closed, rendering me unable to pay green fees for the tee time I booked online. Never mind - I can get my father to drop the money in next time he is there - but I could have done with some balls and a drink, neither of which I was able to purchase and both of which I sorely needed after just a few holes.

The course, whilst not looking particularly impressive on paper, is a real gem. The card does not do it justice at all. The greens were absolutely superb; fast, true, smooth and hideously tricky. The fairways and tee beds were also in excellent condition. However, the course is hard. There are many blind tee shots to play and I would suggest that there is no such thing as a flat lie at Wilpshire. Pretty much every hole is on a slope, aside from the par 3's, a couple of which are too long for comfort and have greens defended by water.

The facilities are admittedly basic, and the clubhouse is pretty dead (although a great pint of Thwaites is served here), but it is what it is: a provincial golf club with a hardcore of wealthy members making their money off society days, and with a membership that demands that the course is kept in an excellent condition.

I can recommend this course as a decent test of golf: not long, but tricky, hilly, undulating, yet well kept and with some of the finest views the county of Lancashire has to offer. Today you could see all the way out to the Fylde Coast, Blackpool Tower, Pendle, Blackburn, Darwen Tower... just stunning. You may have discounted the course after reading the card, but it is certainly worth a go. I certainly enjoyed it.
