Well worth a visit

Only my second time playing this course, which is surprisingly flat considering the terrain you drive through to get to the venue. I first played this course as my first game after major surgery, so was very much hitting within self-imposed limits, which I did not have to worry about this time. Keeping the ball in play is however important, and meant that for the front nine at least; I scored to handicap, by playing conservatively. Messed up a couple of holes early on in the back nine, the eleventh down to mud on the ball which sent it into trouble and a treble bogey, and then on the following hole (stroke index 1), the hole length and then the slope on the green took their toll for a double bogey, leaving me 3 over my handicap for the day. The fairways, tees and greens were all in good order, with the little bit of mud around, only there because of a recent downpour. There was some mention of preferred lies, but my group did not use this. The bunkers looked very good, although to be fair, I managed to avoid them all for my round. The clubhouse is quite decent, with good food and reasonable prices. We were playing on a package as part of the Beds Police Golf Section’s Charity golf day for Beds Cerebral Palsy Society, so not always easy to judge pricing for individual parts of the event. The course is well laid out, although it is not easy to tell holes apart as they are mainly surrounded by the usual British trees, so can be quite similar. Quite a few doglegs, so positioning the ball can be crucial to leave a decent shot into the greens, or past the corners on the par 5 holes. All in all, I enjoyed the course (again), and would be happy to recommend, and will definitely play again.

Good Value - Nice Course

Greens and fairways in very good condition. Well laid-out. There was one incident on 10th where the lack of sand in the bunker FR of the green (and substantial stones directly underneath) damaged a club. Both other bunkers visited on the rounds appeared OK.

Putting green good. Driving Range good. We didn't try the chipping area.

Nice course - good value

Nice course in nice surroundings. Most holes are tree lined so very pretty, and need to be straight off the tee! Greens very quick. Good challenge and good value for money

Pleasant track

A nice, pleasant track. Well maintained, albeit a little boggy under foot. We have had a lot of rain though, but improving the drainage would be a big plus. Greens were generally good despite the weather, as were the other fine playing surfaces. I think a little more signage would help speed up play, but they have been carrying out a the of raising of tree canopies which will no doubt improve speed of play also. A good test of golf with challenging doglegs, I would like to see few more water hazards, but all in all a thoroughly enjoyable course!

I had been looking forward to playing here since a society I belong to played last year. This was my first game back after bowel cancer surgery in mid July, and I was very wary of trying to overhit shots. As a course it didn't disappoint. They've obviously added sand to the bunkers since one of the reviews, and it must have been very dry about a month ago, but it has 'greened up' nicely after some fairly heavy rain in the last couple of weeks. Greens were quite quick, with the ball rolling well and staying on the line you take. Quite large greens, so take note of the flag colours (details are on the scorecard). Weird to see a few wallabys bouncing around the fairways, which apparently escaped from the zoo some years ago. Holes are all tree-lined so difficult to tell each apart, and there do seem to be a lot of doglegs, usually left to right, but all in all I like the course and would definitely return. As a society, it was a little expensive - we normally get a full english for £35, but here it was only coffee and bacon roll, and I think we paid £40, but we were well looked after. The games moved quite smoothly despite a number of lost balls - definitely play a provisional if you're unsure where the first one has gone.
