The practise facilities included a chipping and putting green, short practise area and driving net - enough to allow a little warm up before heading out to victory.
As we played our round, the drainage issues mentioned by several of the previous reviews were all too apparent. Although not swamp like conditions, there were several sections of the course which had been dug up and left, so accurate golfing was essential. Many of the walkways between holes were is such bad condition, it was best to walk on the soggy grass or face a call to claims direct for a broken ankle.
The 17th hole was marked on the scorecard as a 300 odd yard par 4 hole, however, the hole had actually been changed to 160yard par 3 due to severe drainage issues and reconstruction of the fairway. Large sections of the 18th fairway were under repair and simply unplayable, a common issue on several other areas of the course, such as bunkers.
The greens were a good size and of relative difficulty, especially tricky when frozen putting up and down slopes. Fortunately for any other golfers who decide to play this course, you won't find a Murray Galloway (opponent) telling you you're going to miss your putt as you are striking the ball. On already semi-challenging greens, this unsportsmanlike behaviour we've become accustomed to was not appreciated!
Although the course was in rather poor condition, like true professionals, my playing partner and I never gave up and after taking the lead on the 16th, strolled to an easy and memorable victory.
I would struggle to say that Westerwood golf course worth the £17.50 you would be charged for a round, not in it's current state anyway. Perhaps £12-£14 would be more appropriate, at least until the major issues are corrected. Although there are some positives (nice staff and facilitates), I feel that the negatives (poor course maintenance and paths between holes) make this a poor alternative for other similarly priced courses.
We had a good day out golfing at Westerwood, however, I think that was mainly down to the fact we each had a free voucher, the weather was nice and we won.
My advice - wait until the summer to give this course a go!

Lunch was ok, but the game was very much a disapointment. It had been raining and the course was very, very wet.
It was also extremely slow going, took 5 hours to get to the 16th at which time we had to walk in due to poor light.
Westerwood felt like it was a municipal course. The guys in front of us showed no etiquet and were drinking cans off beer while they were walking round. The whole atmosphere of the place was decidely low class.
I wouldn't go back.

This could be a great course . Fact is , it is in poor condition. Even in 27 degrees , it has poor drainage .Green are awful , beyond slow and simply scruffy.
Fairways too long and rough beyond penal .
Simply a shame , Seve as named designer must be turning in his grave .
Simply a waste of what could be a golf course .

Improving!
Greens and course are improving after a few years of not being as good as it could have been. Players need to have more respect for the course and replace divots etc.Reviewer Rating

Be prepared for a long walk.
The course was very wet when I played it and was almost under water in parts. Despite these conditions, I enjoyed the game as the course is challenging and fairly well kept. The greens I felt were slow but this might have been due to the weather conditions on the day. It is quite a tiring course to play as there are several holes where there are very long walks from the green to the next tee.Reviewer Rating
