This could be a great course . Fact is , it is in poor condition. Even in 27 degrees , it has poor drainage .
Green are awful , beyond slow and simply scruffy.
Fairways too long and rough beyond penal .
Simply a shame , Seve as named designer must be turning in his grave .
Simply a waste of what could be a golf course .

Great layout

The course is laid out superbly, with lots of little tests & the opportunity to go for a few bigger hits.
The condition is good, but not as good as a couple of years ago. Dont let this put you off though, it's a lovely course to play.
Top this with the view of the Campsie Hills & you have a great combination.
The hotel ticks all the boxes as well.

Layout wise, this is an excellent track, there is a great variety of holes and great scenery all around. It's quite a long walk round, but good paths right the way round so it's not too strenuous.

However, the course has had a deserved reputation for very poor drainage for some time now. There is a new greenkeeper in place now and having played the course over the last year, there are definite improvements. This year will tell if their work has paid dividends. During a dry spell of weather, there aren't many more enjoyable courses to play in the area.

The clubhouse facilities are shared with the hotel, although there are separate, albeit small changing/shower facilities.

Played Westerwood yesterday, it has been wet recently but the course held up very well. They have just spent over £20k on equipment to keep the golf course well drained. Me and mate both loved the course. Layout was excellent, views were nice, greens were tough which was a pleasant surprise. Some very testing holes which was nice. Requires some thinking of the tee. 12th hole was a great test of skill and awareness.

Me and my mate enjoyed the course that much we enquired about memberships, which we will both be going ahead with. Price of membership is excellent for such a beautiful course.

Played with my mate on a day where there had been rain failing previous days, so course was wet under foot and paths leading between holes were very muddy.
Layout is really enjoyable, great holes and each one is different.im high handicap so found it a struggle. Better players with more accuracy would really love this course design. Par 3 15th is a cracking hole. Greens weren't in any good shape at all and fairways were patchy on certain holes.
If money was there and time and care was taken this would be a 1st class course.

One of the least enjoyable rounds i have played all year. Chipping from under 70 yards near impossible as ground just cuts up. Greens played well but fairways and even the tees were soaking. I play at a cheap council course with almost no funding which has drainage 100x better than westerwoods. If you wore wellies you would still have wet feet at the end. Got fed up around 16th. Good value as i had a free voucher and would be nice if dry. Though i doubt this course has ever been dry since it was built. Also no yardage markers which you would expect considering mostly visitors that play here

Having read all the reviews before going out I'm afraid to say that a lot of them were true, this is a very wet and boggy course and a lot of it will be down to the wet weather we have had. There are some lovely holes on the course and my favorite was the Par 3 15th, on the other hand the 17th should be a par 4 but I spent 10 minutes trying to work out where the actual tee was, then found out it had turned into a par 3 of 100 yards and tee was way up the under repair fairway -might have helped to be told this. The benefit was I played on a free voucher so it didn't cost me anything for the pleasure.

Possibly the worst golf course I've ever played on, in fact probably the worst course in the uk. Looks like it hasn't seen a green keeper in months! Bunkers were mostly muddy holes with no sand in sight. Fairways looked like rough in places and the paths between holes were dug up at regular intervals making it hard work moving your trolley. Greens were hard but had just been cored (ok so there must be a greenskeeper around somewhere).Highlight of the night was the satisfying dump I took before heading out! Some nice views I the local hills, that's about your lot! Very dissapointing!!

Westerwood is a very nice layout and the greens were very good. However course has major Drainage issues. Very wet in places. Some very difficult driving holes but a good test of golf.if your thinking of going make sure it hasnt rained for a month though.scorecard does not show all water hazards on map so beware.was in drink twice because of this.handicap 8 score 77.

Take your scuba gear!

I have now played this course 3 times (colleagues are members) and each time have found the place to be like a swamp. My experience of this today was only marginally better than with my previous rounds.

On my previous 2 rounds I passed comment on the wet condition to the staff in the pro shop, to hear the response 'we've had a tremendous amount of rain here over the last week'. And so, I mentioned it again today to receive the same response... I live around 12 miles away and the weather this week has been great (perhaps a couple of short rain showers only)!

The course has some nice holes, these would be really nice additions to the 'City of Atlantis golf and coral club'.

Don't play the 12th - it is awful, this does not deserve to be a hole on any golf course.

Not impressed at all by the course, glad I had vouchers for it, it was like a bog and I have never left a golf course so dirty. Good pair of shoes almost ruined. Wouldn't rush back or recommend it.

Golf course improvements

Westerwood has improved the drainage and the general overall condition of the course and bringing in contractors to help with the greens has made a big difference . Still a way to go but course is is heading in right direction
