Disappointing
The Westerwood should be a great course, but has been sadly neglected. It is out of condition with very scruffy greens and other straggly waste areas. More should be done on drainage and general upkeep.Reviewer Rating

If it wasn't free i wouldn't play it
This course is not the main focus of this complex, it has been neglected, it could do with a face lift and maybe then it would be worth it.(Round played: Jun 2018 - Score: 102 Handicap: 25.8)

Take wellies!
Myself and a friend played in a pairs comp through Golf Empire. Only £12 including coffee and bacon roll. Bacon roll was self-service and so I piled it in. Good food, nice coffee! However when I asked for a dry roll a miserable little man mumbled 'there's always one', so we replied with, 'then you should probably should have had some ready'. The starter was a disinterested and surly as well. The chap giving out score cards and taking the fees was a nice guy and we had a good chat to him.
Now for the course. A great layout. No complaints there. If it was in the Algarve it would be an absolute gem....however it isn't! Every hole was a boggy mess and the greens were almost floating in places. Yes we'd had rain the night before, but other courses are perfectly playable. This was a 5 hr slog thanks to backspin from drives and playing partners losing balls on the quagmire-like fairways!
To summarise: I would play again, but only after a period of sustained dry weather. Recommend their front of house staff get some customer service training or try a different career.
Otherwise, avoid!

On the downside there were some long walks between green and tee on paths which were so severly potholed that if you had hired a ride on it could have been dangerous due to the severe flooding.
As far as catering is concerned it was very far from being acceptable. On the day there was only one young girl on call carrying out the work on the bar, taking orders for food, cooking the fillings for the rolls and delivering said orders. This might be acceptable if the prices were reasonable but £3.50 for a simple coffee might seem excessive to some. She was good, management, in puting her in this position was diabolical.
Overall the course was good but because of the above the day was extremely disapointing.

Tees and fairways in shockingly bad condition - most holes waterlogged. The course has plenty of long holes, thick rough and hazards - so landing on the fairway should be rewarded! Instead fairways are marshes at best, ponds at worst, making accurate approach shots nearly impossible. When you inevitably miss the green, bunkers are full of standing water. Some fairways are almost entirely GIR, meaning you have to go back 50+ yards to find a suitable drop area.
The only thing worse than the standard of the course was the clubhouse service.
The customers in front of us in the queue (tourists - presumably paying full price for their round) were offered their choice of the 10+ buggies sat immediately outside the club shop. Upon realising that we booked through teeofftimes.co.uk, the starter then refused to rent myself and my playing partner a buggy. This would be insulting enough normally, but given the condition of the course a buggy was a neccessity. Many of the paths between holes were so badly flooded that shoes and trousers were completey ruined.
Having played many other courses this season, the weather is no excuse for the condition of the Westerwood. It was a relatively dry day. Even municipal/council courses are in much, much better condition at this time of year.
If you have a free voucher to play this course, put your wellies and old trousers on and go with low expectations. Otherwise, dont bother.

Stunning location but the course is far too overplayed.
Desperately in need of some investment and serious green keeping.
