Bit like the curates egg...
Bit like the curates egg - good in parts! The courses were clearly overplayed and under cared for. Bare/dusty tee boxes, fairways on Gainsborough course just been solid tined making for poor lies, bunkers bare of sand (hard and stony), greens nowhere near good enough (hard and not receptive). Could be so much better. Certainly no longer of 'championship' standard. Club house and hotel has excellent facilities and the staff all friendly, courteous and helpful. Rooms and food good, but to have no Adnams draught beer on both days is really poor bar management!Reviewer Rating

Gainsbough Stoke by Nayland
Played this course as part of an overnight stay package, we arrived and had one of the best breakfasts I've ever had, the course is good but needed a bit of a tidy up, the greens had been holotined and sanded and this was to be expected as this was the end of winter. The course layout is good the evening meal was outstanding and the staff were very friendly and professional.Reviewer Rating

Constable Stoke by Nayland
Played this course as part of a overnight package at the end of winter, the greens had been holotined and sanded but that was expected, the course has a fantastic layout and is not easy, it can be hard to judge where to land the ball on the green as a lot of greens are above the fairway. The staff are outstanding, very friendly and I could not fault the food. I would like to go there in the summer. We played this course second.Reviewer Rating

Stoke by Nayland has two course - Gainsborough and Constable. There is little to choose between them in terms of quality, difficulty or condition. Both are excellent. My only quibble would be that the tee boxes were not in great condition, and that I would have expected ground keepers to be repairing holes and moving tees to reduce wear and tear

First time playing, really enjoyed the course. The staff were excellent. Constable course was a tough hilly walk but in great condition for the time of year. will come back to play the other course soon.

Really Nice Course
A comprehensive set up with a spa hotel, 2 courses and a restaurant.Played the Constable which was very good, well looked after and provided a real challenge!

Overall a great stay
Really enjoyed the hotel and facilities especially after lockdown. Everyone was pleasant and the course was in a really good condition.(Round played: Sep 2020 - Score: 99 Handicap: )

Both courses in good condition. The Constable appeared to be more manicured than the Gainsborough. Greens were good on both. Very firm everywhere due to recent dry weather so hard to get a ball to hold a green. Hotel was excellent, as was food. Staff did well despite probably being a little short on no's. Excellent dinner. Look forward to heading back in the future.

well worth the visit
despite the very wet weather it was in pretty good condition, greens could do with some TLC but the weather has almost certainly been the reason for them not being redressed having been some weeks ago(Round played: May 2021 - Score: 93 Handicap: 17.8)
