What the club says: The course consists of 18 holes designed by the 5 times Open Champion James Braid. It has a par of 70 with a length of 6,357 yards. There is no doubt it is one of the best Essex courses, situated just north of the town and five minutes from the A12. The fast running fairways lined with mature trees and firs provide a wonderful test of golf. The four par threes and two par fives mean scoring below 70 is more difficult than it might seem at first. Possibly the greatest threat to the unwary golfer comes in the form of tightly bunkered approaches to small subtly contoured greens.

Don't forget your Driver
Deceptively long course, if you don't hit long then second shots into the green are 180+. Not a bad thing as it tests your driving. Greens very well paced, ball rolls lovely. Fairways patchy but thats the same everywhere this time of year. Bunkers could do with some work. A number of holes you have to drive over the previous green, can hold up play.We played twilight and the members refused to let a two ball through at any stage, sometimes we were on the tee with a four ball. Some work to be done here.
Staff very friendly, particularly the pro shop assistant. Bellisima.

Average
The Colchester golf course was not as well looked after as I thought it would be but still a quality course. We had to play off lots of temporary tees which is always disappointing but nobody?s fault I guess. The weather hasn?t been too bad up till now though.

Nice course
Considering the amount of rain, the course is in good condition and played well(Round played: Mar 2019 - Score: 87 Handicap: 17.2)

One of the best in Essex
Simply one of the best in the county. Not particularly long but very tricky set up. Wonderful greens. Tee boxes very tidy. Will be looking great when the weather improves. Definitely considering joining.(Round played: Feb 2018 - Score: 83 Handicap: 11.3)

Lovely old Golf Course
Lovely true - fast greens. Some parts of the fairways were quite dry. The tee's are in great condition and the course was a delight to play.

Marvellous Golf Course
Very well established course (1907). Definitely a thinkers course. There had been a deluge the night before but was still in fantastic condition. Greens were quick but true, fairways were running pretty well. Plenty of interesting holes. Staff were helpful and attentive.

The best in Essex
Finally found a great course in Essex. Immaculate greens and tee boxes. Fairways decent, not sure the fairway yard ages were accurate. A difficult course that puts a premium on putting the ball in the right place.(Round played: Jun 2017 - Score: 87 Handicap: 12.5)

Course was in very good condition apart from a couple of patches on some greens .
