A tale of two halves
Sherdley Park is a great municipal with two very different nines. The course is actually laid out as a ten hole stretch, then 11 and 12 are a bit of a walk back past the first tee with the last six holes over the road past the clubhouse. The front 9 is very tricky as the par 37 suggests. The back 9 is very short but still full of interesting holes. It does get frequented by people that only play once a year. The four ball in front of us all sliced 50 yards into the trees but never once looked back to consider letting us play through even with a large gap in front. We ended up starting on 11 instead. They were in the rough on the tenth when we saw them again three hours later.
All in all a cracking course but allow 5-6 hours on a sunny Saturday.

The course itself is a decent challenge, especially the front 9, with the 6th being a particularly troublesome hole. The back 9 is classic risk and reward with several driveable par 4s
There's not much in the way of signage but it's a straightforward layout for the most part. The 4th hole tee box is back on yourself through a gap in the trees after you've putted out on the 3rd. To find the 11th & 12th holes it's back past the first tee and then up the hill in front of you. The remaining 6 holes are past the club shop and over the road
It can get busy at times and does attract all levels of golfer so be prepared to encounter hackers
There always seems to be buggies available but I don't often see people using them when I play, probably because they are a relatively recent addition (last couple of years maybe?)
Overall it's good value for money as the course is very good with the facilities in need of a little improvement. Some great promo deals available too at certain times

Improving!!
The improvements to the course since the takeover are pretty impressive. The course as a whole look's good. Fairways nicely cut, tee boxes are fine, bunkers have new sand and are regularly raked. The greens are a work in progress, but are much better. They are just very slow. As I understand it, there are big plans for the club house, with a roof top bar/restaurant which will look over the 18th. Trees are to be reduced course wide, and restructuring of a couple of green's. If this progress continues, I'll defiantly be considering membership after the winter. Credit to the owners and the greenkeepers.Reviewer Rating

Could be so much better.
Course is way over priced for what they offer at the moment. Been reduced holes for so long and now back to 18 the ‘new holes’ are way off. There is no marshalling so people can just wander on whenever they want and play which makes the booking of t times a joke. More often than not there are at least two/three groups waiting to t off on each hole. This even happens on comp days. Owners said they would sort this but never did. T boxes are shocking and none are square. The greens are generally in good condition but the bunkers and fairways are not good. Worringly the new holes are the worse. A couple of the new fairways on the back are like playing off aggregate and are just full of stones. Parking is a nightmare and if you can manage to get in the clubhouse the drinks are overpriced and poor. If you are unfortunate enough to play there then don’t try to complain as the club shop workers just shrug and say ‘that’s golf’ and no one ever responds to emails. Such a shame as it could be a great course.Reviewer Rating

Decent Enough But Issues
Not bad overall but definitely one I would play differently if I came back. The newer part of the course has potential to be really nice when it is all properly bedded in. Greens were decent on that part of the course. The rest of it is just a bit scruffy in places, few bunkers missing rakes, areas that have been cut and bits missed. It has quite a few short holes too where you would normally maybe have one or two sub-300 yard par 4's there are about 4/5 which isn't ideal. We played in a society and the watches / GPS systems were all different all the time so never quite sure how far you had, doesn't help when the 150 marker is clearly about 20 yards out too. This was a common complaint amongst our 20 golfers. Off the course the bar / restaurant is excellent. Really nice and food was very good with a really good selection of beer. Downside is that there is no locker room / shower so you are festering with sweat and sun cream whilst you eat / drink. If it is essentially a muni with muni prices then you can't argue to be fair, would be one of the better ones. If it is more of a club then it could do with a bit more TLC on the course and a locker room.

The course itself the back new holes are not ready the quality of soil they have used for the seed to take is horrendous full of aggregate this should of been topped of with clean top soil and seeded or turfed, instead they have been so far behind it looks like its been rushed its like hitting a ball off a quarry works
such a shame waisted over 2 years here playing temp holes for nothing looks like i will be cancelling subscription

well the weather was a mixed bag but the course was very good condition, some realy good holes on the front 9 but the back 9 is as some one else has said easier. nice to com in after the front being a little hilly (not the massive hills like some others local but slopes are wicked) some very tasty par 3's you can realy have a go at them with a mid to low iron. the greens are great don't hold water and are nicley looked after. the fairways are well very good but like i said some do slope badly, (so be carefull were you aim as you could be of the fairways to the oppersite side if not carefull). over all very good had a great time, shame the club house shut at 17:30 we got in at 17:15 and told we could have a beer but only if we could drink it before half past (so we ordered TWO each !!!!!!!) staff was great as they served the guys who finished after us...
