Nice little course, played off the yellow tees 39 point in the morning and 37 in the afternoon off 12. Can get a bit windy and some of the lies are a little tricky. Greens ok but not the quickest on the day I played. Good club house and changing rooms, the showers were good. Disappointing food and rather expensive for what it was. Golf buggy hire expensive!! and limited.

Lovely hilly course, very scenic. Greens are not up there with the best but not too bad. Rest of course is in good condition. Definitely worth playing.

A great little course. When I played the wind was a real leveler and that added to the enjoyment. The course played short when the wind was behind you but needed some mastery of course management when in your face.

Unfortunately it rained all day in December 2013. The course held up well to the weather. Greens recently had maintenance carried out, so they were a little bumpy in places. Winter tees were excellent. The wind made the back nine very long. I'm sure the weather didn't do the course justice and I would very much like to return in the spring or summer. Breakfast and evening meal were excellent as was the service.

Lovely established course with tricky greens. Clubhouse is a bit of a let down. Members are not the friendliest.

Very good course. Very well maintained and dries dramatically well. It is a good challenge without players spending half their time looking for balls. Lots of slopes. Greens in good condition. Three temporary greens. The first hole was out of commission due to maintenance. work on the green side bunker. As at most clubs at this time of the year some of the bunkers lacked sand which sometimes made life a bit difficult (the answer, of course, is don't go into them in the first place!). A very pleasant clubhouse with a good atmosphere about it. Pro very friendly - and a good sense of humour. Played 5th Feb 2013.

The Royal Winchester golf club is a magnificent course. The fairways, bunkers, greens and tee boxes are extremely well kept. The course is very hilly, and so trolley's often disassemble themselves (as has happened on many occasions) The front nine is very easy, and the back nine proves slightly harder. If you are a famous fisherman, then you will be delighted to know that there is no water on this course. The club house is very nice and well priced. Enjoy your round.

Course was in good condition. Conditions were quite frosty earlier on but soon thawed out. The 10th is an interesting hole, the green is about 50ft above the fairway on a small plateau. Staff were friendly and general atmosphere was good.

Have played this course many times and have always found it to be in good playing condition, greens fairways, bunkers etc. This time was no exception. The food was also of good quality and the service likewise. It is always good to come back here.

Royal Winchester GC is situated within the City boundaries but is open to farmland and distant views towards north Hampshire from much of the course, and from the Clubhouse. Quite strenuously hilly in places with tough rough and well-manicured and presented tees and greens, and particularly good, springy, diagonal-cut fairways.

Extensive work has been done for 2008 in extending the course and its previous rating of SSS 70 has gone out to 72 to equal the par (from the white tees). Many of the greens have ridges and subtle borrows - local wisdom has it that all putts on the front nine turn towards the ninth hole in the valley but there are a few exceptions.

There is now a much wider range of approach shot lengths so club selection is much more significant and the course will test all parts of your game, particularly if you obtain permission to play from the white tees - the most dramatic change has been the 6th, formerly a par-4 SI 1 now a par-5 which has retained its "most-difficult" status! Cross-bunkers just inside the 150 marker, and against the prevailing wind, will have you wondering whether to lay up and leave a long third stroke into an awkward green.

The only slight weakness that stops the course from becoming the best test of golf in Hampshire is the number of approach shots you have to play where the green, or at least the bottom of the flag, is not visible and you cannot see your ball pitch. As a result the feedback you get from seeing how your ball responds when it lands is limited. Still, "rub of the green" is all in the game and if you have the character to take the unexpected - good and bad - then you will enjoy the experience.

A new putting green and nets are coming into use in Spring 2008, the professional's shop has a reputation for good value and deals, especially at sale time (clothing is often very reasonable) and the Clubhouse, built in 1995 after a fire destroyed the old building, is spacious and airy with a great balcony overlooking the 18th, and good service.

At the time of writing there is a winter offer until the end of March for a fourball including a snack meal for an astonishing £80, and the course is playing as well as many do in mid-summer.

This course is quite hilly but well looked after. It is a good drying course and can be played all the year round. It requires good course management if you want to score well and there is a great variety of different types of holes and tee shots. You are unlikely to score well on your first visit, but this is likely to bring you back to play again.
It took me a number of times playing the course before I recorded good scores. I try to play this course a few times each year as it is a good challenge and satisfying when you do well. A half way refreshment house is sometimes open. There are also toilets after nine holes available.
