SLOW SLOW SLOWEST EVER
Slowest round of golf ever. Over 4 hours 50!! And told by chap behind the counter that’s to be expected as a busy weekend.Marshall has a hopeless task as they let all range of handicap golfers outs. Nice corse in places. But not really worth the money. Bar nice now but service in bar worse that the course as no bar staff and really noisy!

Slow
Far too slow, more interest in societies and over booking. If you’re happy with a 6 hour round and 3 groups on every tee, the course for youReviewer Rating

Don't bother
Played with a member there, he apologised for the condition before we even started, thankfully he paid for the green fee as it was really poor. The manager / senior staff member said it had improved over the past month, what was it like before?! We did pop into the bar after and it was like a game of hide and seek to try and find a person that work their, 2x office staff but no bar staff.????Reviewer Rating

seen better days
Used to play here years ago and has taken a turn for the worse. Weather hasnt been great so understandably wet but fairways hadnt been cut and needed reseeding. greens to be fair were good but slow. Sounds like it is under new management now so should improve but I won't be coming back until the summer to see.(Round played: Oct 2019 - Score: 96 Handicap: 20.8)

poor
Its a real shame this course has been left to get inti the state it is has, it could be a fantastic course. A really good layout with the water making some holes a real challenge. But the condition and staff let this place down. The bunkers are the worst ive ever seen, hardly any sand and full of stones, bumpy and very slow greens, fairways patchy and generally poor. Played it after bidding at my home clubs captains day auction. Crown golf are either going bust or this club is going to close as no money is being spent here. Feel for any members they have left having to play this place every week, makes me appreciate my home members owned club even more.Reviewer Rating

Going downhill
Played Pyrford yesterday for the first time this year and was extremely disappointed. Fairway bunkers are more like quarries, fairways ( especially back nine ) are in shocking condition. Greens were lumpy and slow. Not sure what has happened to the course but it seems very little money/time being spent on it. Glad we got a discount as would NOT pay the £45 it is asking on tee off times. Avoid until it improvesReviewer Rating

Below average
Played Pyrford yesterday for the first time in a couple of years. Was very disappointed in the whole experience. When I arrived I ordered a breakfast, order was wrong and when I asked for cutlery and sauces I was told they are round the corner and that the colleague was too busy to get them!Course very poor for this time of year. Fairways on the back 9 aren't even worth hitting as there is no grass what so ever. Tee boxes are awful. I think we played on 3 flat ones at most. Greens pretty slow as well.

Terrible condition
I wouldn't usually leave a review but this course was in particularly bad condition. We unfortunately ignored the recent reviews that said as much, and suffered with some unplayable greens. It's a shame as the course design has a lot of potential, but is seriously under-invested and messy.

Suffering in the heat...
Played the course for the first time earlier with some mates who raved about their rounds there over the last few years...I won't be going back and I don't think they will be either.
Credit where it is due though; it's July 2018 and there's been almost no rain for 7 weeks so everywhere is suffering, but we played a course yesterday (within 15 miles) where the fairways are green and the greens were receptive and true. None of which applies at Pyrford...
The greens were terrible. The grass length on the greens was nowhere near consistent. There were cracks on some, replacement patches on others, scorched areas, over-mown areas, unmarked GUR, random holes... And goose droppings... Okay, so we're all used to doing a bit of 'gardening' when lining up a putt, but this would have required a major amount of shovelling s*** if trying it on every hole!
The fairways were terrible. Scorched. Dead. Rock solid. I luckily realised early on that trying to get a club under the ball was pointless and started to play chip-and-runs with my 7-iron from up to 120 yards out. My mates soon tired of jarring their wrists with attempts to wedge shots in to the green off unforgiving lies. We even started to play shots towards the rough to give us a chance to get something under the next shot! We were stunned as we walked down the 16th and realised that the left-hand of that fairway and rough was green (probably from leakage from the neighbouring canal), but the rest was parched. There was a sprinkler head about a 100 yards from the green, but since the green 'oasis' was only about a foot across, I leave it for you to judge the last time it had been used.
The bunkers? They were a joke! (They were terrible!) So you have to make allowances for footprints of a non-human kind on a course with a high degree of wildlife, but every bunker I paid attention to was peppered with Footjoy and Adidas and Nike (etc.) prints. Add to that, more stones than the England Rugby scrum pack per bunker! And weeds!!! Really?!?!? The grass isn't growing on the rest of the course, but the weeds are flourishing in the bunkers? How come?
I absolutely concede that the design of Pyrford might make for a challenging course, but unless you can buy a course guide, "out of stock", from the less-than-bothered guys in the proshop, you're just going to lose ball after ball - and not enjoy the process!
Let me summarise by suggesting that if you have the option to play somewhere else for the money (or less!) then take it - at least through the summer of 2018.

Gone down hill
I use to be a member of Pyrford and loved it. It was always a step up from other local courses such as Traditions, Silvermere and Hoebridge. I played it on Saturday for the first time in about 5 years and was so disappointed with the experience. The plus points were the staff and the greens. Everyone we met was very friendly and helpful and the greens were hard and fast but unfortunately that’s were the positive ends. The club house had zero atmosphere, no pro shop and they charged £6 a pint! The course itself looked over played the tee boxes were like £10 a round courses and the fairways were too dry, patchy and divets everywhere. When I use to play the fairways were like carpet, not anymore. Prior to going out we were told how much money had been spent on the course and we’ll really notice a difference……not true. Some new, well placed bunkers had been put in and the new pond on the 6th is good but everything else appears to have gone backwards. At this time of year the course should be looking at its best. The worst part was the pace of play. I know it was a Saturday in July and they need to get people out to make money but we waited on every shot. We actually gave up after 12 having been on the course for 3.5 hours. There was a Marshall driving around but didn’t appear to make much difference. The layout itself is excellent, not a bombers course and takes some thought however, I won’t be back. £60 a round based on what I saw today is way off the mark.Reviewer Rating
