beautiful course, some very tricky holes, a bit hilly for my liking, you can hire buggies so that takes care of that, very friendly staff.

Golfshake Team ReviewLovely course on the edge of the peak district in Derbyshire. As you would expect there are a few hills to get up and down but nothing too over the top.

Set in a fantastic part of the country the course is well laid out and well maintained with impeccable greens and course conditioning.

When I played in late July the course really was a joy to play with true fast greens. Around the green did catch me out a few times with the off green/fairway cut providing for some tricky lies.

Luckily I played with someone who knew their way around but there were a few tees and greens in close proximity which could catch visitors out and having inside knowledge helps with a few shots which are very close to tee boxes notably on the 8th/9th and the 13th, 14th & 15th.

Course well worth playing.

Matlock is a good and interesting course, well kept with generous fairways and even greens. Friendly and good value if playing with a member. Clubhouse was average with very friendly staff and good service.

Great layout but it isn't made the most of. In part might be due to ongoing ground works but not always so. Green side bunkers are incredibly inconsistent, some are in decent condition but many have no sand or are badly compacted. Some paths, tees and green surrounds are badly worn and it is possible to get a lie on hardpan clay just feet from the green side. In parts the course looks a little scruffy. Also there are some quirky features that don't seem to make sense. For example 3rd hole has a steeply right to left sloping fairway that pulls drives down to the left semi. The presence of a series of artificial mounds can punish even the best of drives.

Potentially a memorable course as every hole has a distinctive character, but the condition is a letdown. This and a somewhat unwelcoming greeting in the clubhouse do not do its' potential justice.

The course was excellent and very well maintained, dare i say manicured! A very tight course, with lots of unusual but fun features. The driving range is excellent as well, and very well lit. Superb views from all areas of the course, making good use of the spectacular surroundings, and the facilities were good, though maybe due some updating in certain places. They have almost finished the golf cart tracks when I went recently as well. Definitely returning and bringing along some friends while i'm at it! Hugely recommended.

Course is set in the picturesque hills of Matlock. Lovely views throughout the round but don't let this impact your concentration. Some very difficult par 3's and a particularly difficult par 5 which has a tight fairway leading to a small elevated green. Make sure you have a good breakfast because the undulating fairways take their toll on the legs by the time you start the back 9. Great testing course which is in fine fettle.

Course in great condition. Moorland type courses traditionally suffer from slow growth at the start of the season. Greens are great and the place looks very well tended. Lots of development being finished off with tracks, bridges and pathways being put in place to accommodate buggies. The Club has just taken delivery of four buggies so anyone concerned about topographical ups and downs could hire one. Personally think golf is as much about the walk and the walk can help dictate the tempo of the game and your swing.
Club has also opened a new driving range fairly recently which we were able to try out. Always interesting to see which swing you brought with you before you step onto the first tee. Great selection of holes all providing their own individual test. Some interesting carries across valleys off certain of the tees. Don't look at them too much, they'll scare the hell out of you. They are all makeable carries but bring your best driving game with you. A number of the greens have raised approaches to them requiring you to fly the ball onto them so scuffed shots tend to get punished unless you're very lucky.
Some lovely views of Riber Castle and surrounding countryside from various holes on the course.
Clubhouse grub was fine and there is a very pleasant 19th area with snooker room, as well as the main club house area/dining room. People we met were very friendly.
