What the club says: The Chesterfield Golf Club was formed in 1897 and moved to its present site at Walton in 1906. The course is either side of woodland (Riggots Plantation), the top seven holes on the eastern side being quite different in character to the remaining eleven holes on the lower western side of the course, over which Birdholme Brook meanders and brings many golfers to a watery end. (Golf wise that is!)

Chesterfield GC Review
Round played April 2024. Unfortunately at the time of play due to the weather, there was a mixture of normal greens and temporary's. In places it was very wet (lower end of the course) and certain parts of the course you needed to avoid walking. The normal greens were OK, they ran very true and still quite fast. The fairways on the front nine were patchy and bare in places. Bunkers were OK with plenty of sand. The club always seems to be busy, the car park was full and the traditional clubhouse is well loved by the members. However, the drinks prices for visitors are extremely inflated! Overall I always like a round at Chesterfield, the course seems to be at it's best during the summer months and I know in the past the greens are the fastest around during this time. Not a course to play in winter I'm afraid.Reviewer Rating

Having been a junior member some 20+ years ago, the course layout has reminded the same, quality of the course is as expected for the level of fees. Greens were true and very solid, fairways were pretty good and very well defined.Reviewer Rating

Very friendly ,helpful staff ,it had,4temps but very well maintained ,,greens and fairways very well looked after , good mixture of hard , fair and easy holes to get your pars .picturesque autumnal trees and and abundance of wildlife , great value for money ,I must play for traveling golfersReviewer Rating

Great course
Fantastic condition, greens and fairways, it was exactly as I expected, a couple of minor faults,1 if you have never played before you may find it hard to work your way around the course, next tee arrows would be advisable but being as it is not a municipal course only members and members guests can play it so that’s why they don’t worry about arrows.
2 a couple of the holes are really close so it has the potential for somebody to get struck by a ball, care must be taken at all times.

Society day
Breakfast was good the staff were very polite n the professional was very friendly the course what a great course the tee boxes were great the fairways were very good and the greens were brilliant fast in fact they where the fastest I have played on they were true in fact they were great the head green keeper is worth is weight in gold(Round played: Sep 2020 - Score: 85 Handicap: 10)

Was visiting the Peak District for the long Easter weekend and wanted to sneak 18 holes in locally to where I was staying. Club was very accommodating and allowed me to play in their Friday roll up with a number of members. Course was in good condition, back 9 is challenging and overall would highly recommend. Only £7 to hire electric trolley too.

Part of out TECEN society tour. Beautiful course, a bit tricky, but very playable. Very nice club house and really friendly people.

A challenging golf course which breaks you in gently with good scoring holes on the first 6 holes. It becomes more challenging on the back 9 where you need to hit good tee shots to create birdie opportunities. The Par 3 holes are challenging to say the least, with the wind coming into play throughout. The Par 5 finish on the 18th is an excellent hole, playing into a tiered green and be careful to not come up short when the pin placement is placed on the top tier.

The Course is always in great condition with some of the best greens to be found locally unless you travel to Renishaw. The Course itself doesn't overally entertain me with the layout. It has many boundries that make it feel compressed but overall its okay. Often a shot into the third can be played in to the sound of Jay-Z or Scooter pumping out from the housing estate behind the green. Holes that are very enjoyable are 8, 9 and 10 but come to the back 9 and things become awkward. 16 and 17 are really uncomfortable holes just being fiddly and a pain really. 17 a good shot could hend in a bad position and likewise for 17. Personally I'll play it and enjoy the course but it's not a regular choice of mine. Beware of the ballcony Nazis also who watch over the 10th and 18th with a Sniper Scope looking to take anyone out who happens to have the wrong colour socks. Social Snobbery.

Course is really nice but at the moment they are carrying out some work on the greens so that all 18 holes are playing to temporary greens. You are putting on a fairway which is not ideal so if playing this course i would wait until the maintenance is carried out on the greens.
