What the club says: The Course is situated on Matlock Moor, about one and a half miles North of Matlock on the Chesterfield Road, rising to 850 feet above sea level. Designed and laid out in 1907 by that famous Professional, the late Tom Williamson, the course generally speaking, calls for accuracy rather than long hitting.
Bentley Brook meanders through the course to give special interest on several holes and the undulating moorland, with its trees, heather, ravines and gullies, provides for a very interesting and testing round of golf, enhanced by superb views down the Derwent Valley.

Lovely lay out, worth a visit !
On my mission to have played 200 courses in my life, my pal and I visited this course in October 2020 mid coronavirus issues. The greens had been under maintenance prior to our round so the channels on the greens made for some fun putts but maintenance has to be done, so I can?t knock the course for that and they reduced the fee accordingly. The course has a really interesting layout with some lovely outlooks across valleys to castles and other viewing points. Every hole different and a relatively easy course with open fairways in and around undulating hills, valleys and streams. Some great greens and reachable par 5?s. Only thing I would say is that some tee off points are very close to greens and in case crossed one another, I find it hard to hit towards people even if they are on another tee, maybe that?s just me. But the course is lovely and the food afterwards was top notch too. Watch out for the very thick trees in front of the 18th green where my mates ball still remains to this day !

Peak District Beauty
played off the tips with the club Vice Captain as his guest. Lockdown provisions fully in place but felt reassuringly safe throughout. The course is in superb condition and has had a number of cosmetic changes made to the first tee box area. Designed by Tom Williamson. Hollinwell and Longcliffe fame and the layout make great use of the available footprint. There are some jaw-dropping views and vistas available from a range of positions across the courses. The greens and surrounds were in superb order played fast and true. I know the clubhouse and the service is usually excellent however many staff are currently furloughed but my marks on based on several previous visits.this is an excellent course for the visiting golfer. Well worth a visit. The new practice range facilities are well sued but need to be booked prior to arrival.

Matlock
Course in very good condition. They only have distance markers in the middle of the fairway - you are lost for distance especially if you are a visitor. A very strange setup regarding buggies - they had four and now non is available? All the other clubs around have buggies and are sanitised with out any problem.....?(Round played: Aug 2020 - Score: 89 Handicap: 16.1)

Scenic Derbyshire course set in rolling hills
Course very well presented. Played in Pro-Am off the tips. Some interesting and challenging holes. like the par 3's in particular several requiring accurate shots over ravines.Friendly course well worth a visit. clubhouse food is great as well(Round played: Jul 2019 - Score: 104 Handicap: 18.9)

Stunning Views
I really enjoyed my visit to Matlock.Felt like a shorter course but the layout of some of the holes means that it is still very challenging.
The views on the back 9 in particular were superb also.
Its fairly forgiving from the tee as long as you're not crazy offline. The general condition of the course was fantastic too.
Really enjoyable round of golf.

Fabulous course
A fabulous course to play. Greens were in good condition for saying they have had a few problems.A very tiring course, first time I have walked it in ages after having heart surgery but managed to get round.

Played a round with 2 other non members but regulars, They were great company. Never done this before but halfway round I played the wrong ball. Apologised to member who was very good about it .Did have 1 problem but will leave it at that as I had such a great day.(Round played: Jun 2019 - Score: 92 Handicap: 16)

Matlock Golf Club
Fantastic course well layed out with interesting challenges. Condition of greens very good. Staff very friendly with excellent bar facilities(Round played: Jun 2019 - Score: 88 Handicap: 16.9)

Great course
Staff very polite breakfast was great the course is brilliant a fantastic lay out but the greens r crap very slow the ball was bobbing all over the place(Round played: May 2019 - Score: 81 Handicap: 7.4)

Holiday golf
Excellent round of golf at Matlock. The course was lovely and will be even better when the grass has grown the greens and they can be cut properly. They were still fine though.(Round played: Apr 2019 - Score: 91 Handicap: 17.7)

superb course and friendly members

(Round played: Aug 2018 - Score: 86 Handicap: 17.6)

Spectacular surroundings
A course that has spectacular views from all 18 holes. Every hole has an elevation change, some more severe than others. This results in your usual driving distances and lengths that you hit your irons having to be re computed. In other words it is a course where you have to use your brain. Fairways and greens are superbly looked after but if you get frustrated when a bounce doesn't go your way you will not enjoy a round here. The luck of the bounce comes in to play on almost every par 4 and 5 drive. Don't expect flat lies either as the ball is often above or below your feet for your second shot. I enjoyed the challenges that the course presents and its setting was an added bonus.(Round played: Jun 2018 - Score: 89 Handicap: )

(Round played: Nov 2017 - Score: 77 Handicap: 12)

Good condition
The course was in excellent condition especially the greens which have some subtle breaks in them.

Nice course with fantastic peak district views

I walked and didn't' find that hilly but it is the peak district so some may find hilly. It is also worth checking on the status of buggies which can be limited due to some of the hills.
Watch out on 7th, 8th and 9th where the tees and greens marginally cross but this is only if you are wayward and the 14th green and 15th tee are also close by. The 14th is a lovely short par 4 which is always worth having a go at. I also like the 13th which play downhill but you are then playing back up to the green with a big bank at the bank.
Finally, look out for the natural spring at the back of the 17th tee box !
