What the club says: The Course is situated on Matlock Moor, about one and a half miles North of Matlock on the Chesterfield Road, rising to 850 feet above sea level. Designed and laid out in 1907 by that famous Professional, the late Tom Williamson, the course generally speaking, calls for accuracy rather than long hitting.

Bentley Brook meanders through the course to give special interest on several holes and the undulating moorland, with its trees, heather, ravines and gullies, provides for a very interesting and testing round of golf, enhanced by superb views down the Derwent Valley.

Friendly reception. Very good condition. Great greens. Practice area has the usual nets with enough balls. Chipping area also in a very handy location - next to the nets. Driving range a long way away from clubhouse and first Tee. Had a very good light lunch. Will do it again

Spectacular surroundings

A course that has spectacular views from all 18 holes. Every hole has an elevation change, some more severe than others. This results in your usual driving distances and lengths that you hit your irons having to be re computed. In other words it is a course where you have to use your brain. Fairways and greens are superbly looked after but if you get frustrated when a bounce doesn't go your way you will not enjoy a round here. The luck of the bounce comes in to play on almost every par 4 and 5 drive. Don't expect flat lies either as the ball is often above or below your feet for your second shot. I enjoyed the challenges that the course presents and its setting was an added bonus.

Good condition

The course was in excellent condition especially the greens which have some subtle breaks in them.

Nice course with fantastic peak district views

Golfshake Team ReviewAlways nice to play this course, not to long and a decent variety of holes creating a challenge for all golfers. Course is always in superb conditions, well maintained and excellent true greens.

I walked and didn't' find that hilly but it is the peak district so some may find hilly. It is also worth checking on the status of buggies which can be limited due to some of the hills.

Watch out on 7th, 8th and 9th where the tees and greens marginally cross but this is only if you are wayward and the 14th green and 15th tee are also close by. The 14th is a lovely short par 4 which is always worth having a go at. I also like the 13th which play downhill but you are then playing back up to the green with a big bank at the bank.

Finally, look out for the natural spring at the back of the 17th tee box !

Well worth visiting, par 3's need thinking about hitting across gorges, not as hilly as you would think, only last few holes.

You cant visit/live in this area without ticking Matlock GC off your list. A true test with gorse, heather, carries and wonderful views all proving a distraction.
Greens were marked in places but pins positioned well away. Fairways also varied in quality and feel with varying grass types. Worth purchasing a strokesaver and downloading the Pro's tips.

First time to the course and it's a good challenge both in terms of course and walking! The greens were in the process of being treated in preparation for the upcoming months so were a bit wobbly but that's understandable. Played with a member so only paid ?10 which was fantastic

A very enjoyable course to play. The scenery helps but it is the quality of the course design that makes it such a happy challenge. The condition of the whole course was top class. A credit to the greenskeepers and the club professionals. Totally enjoyed my day.

beautiful course, some very tricky holes, a bit hilly for my liking, you can hire buggies so that takes care of that, very friendly staff.

Golfshake Team ReviewLovely course on the edge of the peak district in Derbyshire. As you would expect there are a few hills to get up and down but nothing too over the top.

Set in a fantastic part of the country the course is well laid out and well maintained with impeccable greens and course conditioning.

When I played in late July the course really was a joy to play with true fast greens. Around the green did catch me out a few times with the off green/fairway cut providing for some tricky lies.

Luckily I played with someone who knew their way around but there were a few tees and greens in close proximity which could catch visitors out and having inside knowledge helps with a few shots which are very close to tee boxes notably on the 8th/9th and the 13th, 14th & 15th.

Course well worth playing.
