Club has also opened a new driving range fairly recently which we were able to try out. Always interesting to see which swing you brought with you before you step onto the first tee. Great selection of holes all providing their own individual test. Some interesting carries across valleys off certain of the tees. Don't look at them too much, they'll scare the hell out of you. They are all makeable carries but bring your best driving game with you. A number of the greens have raised approaches to them requiring you to fly the ball onto them so scuffed shots tend to get punished unless you're very lucky.
Some lovely views of Riber Castle and surrounding countryside from various holes on the course.
Clubhouse grub was fine and there is a very pleasant 19th area with snooker room, as well as the main club house area/dining room. People we met were very friendly.

Matlock
Course in very good condition. They only have distance markers in the middle of the fairway - you are lost for distance especially if you are a visitor. A very strange setup regarding buggies - they had four and now non is available? All the other clubs around have buggies and are sanitised with out any problem.....?(Round played: Aug 2020 - Score: 89 Handicap: 16.1)

Set in a fantastic part of the country the course is well laid out and well maintained with impeccable greens and course conditioning.
When I played in late July the course really was a joy to play with true fast greens. Around the green did catch me out a few times with the off green/fairway cut providing for some tricky lies.
Luckily I played with someone who knew their way around but there were a few tees and greens in close proximity which could catch visitors out and having inside knowledge helps with a few shots which are very close to tee boxes notably on the 8th/9th and the 13th, 14th & 15th.
Course well worth playing.

Wow !!
The last time I visited Matlock was before COVID and even then I thought it was a beautiful course, but the recent changes have transformed this into a really spectacular golf club, the course has moved towards a more natural heathland design in keeping with the natural surroundings, a new bunker program has delivered beautifully sculpted hazards that await any unsuspecting golfer and the greens are the best I have played on anywhere this year, they really are a pleasure to putt on. Matlock is a fantastic test of golf with a great range of holes and some stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The club house has had a big overhaul and now is a much more modern and welcoming environment for a drink after, if you haven’t played Matlock before or if you haven’t been for a while get yourself down there you won’t be disappointedReviewer Rating

The course is over all challenging and in good condition. Extrensive work is being carried out on holes 1-5 making them unplayable. What the course lacked is sufficient directions to the next holesReviewer Rating

great condition despite the heatwave
played yesterday. Throughly enjoyable golfing experience. Hard fast fairways gave extra run to the tee ball but the greens were lush and true. This course requires a strategic plan off the tee as it can be penal if you are off line. Some challenging short holes again needing careful play due to the baked condition of the course. Food etc and clubhouse welcome were excellent as usual.Reviewer Rating
