Good course. Still in winter conditions. Three winter greens.

Rip off

Meant to be a fab course, has held championships etc. Greens were in very poor nick, course isn't all that, prices charged were astronomical for a course in such bad nick.

Two very good courses with excellent facilities. They are both well maintained with a great combination of holes, especially the back nine on the east course. These holes have you playing through a wooded valley with a couple of long hits over marshy ground, eventually emerging into a big flattering hit downhill. The final par 5 is great fun.

The west course is similarly varied, but probably slightly easier. The courses are attached to a hotel and country club and are very close to Edinburgh and are consequently fairly busy but well worth a visit.

Busy, but understandably so.

Two well laid out courses in great shape, but you have to be too in order to tackle some of the hills. The 1st & 10fh of the east course and the 1st of the west are hits up a hill to an attractive wooded plateau with views towards the Forth bridges. There is a pleasing mix of holes on both courses. On the less challenging west course the last six holes take you down into a valley well below the hotel before battering your way back up. The east course sperates the men from the boys on the last six. I'm probably still a bit immature.

Great for a golf break at the hotel, or an easy day trip from Edinburgh or even Glasgow.

Championship - nice course, particularly holes 9 & 18. Unfortunately the green were really poor (bumpy, slow & bare patches)

Two of us played for £0 green fees using "thegolfersclub" vouchers and no quibbles from the pro shop during booking or when presenting our vouchers. Consequently we hired a buggy for £35 and for such a quality course (east) this a real bargain.
Played 31/09/14 and greens in excellent condition, very close to those we inspected at Gleneagles on the Ryder Cup course 17th, you'll only have your poor misreads / hits to blame for missed putts.
We found the course in very good condition, although off fairways the grass hides the ball and makes recovery far from easy, as it should be so keep your eye on the ball to make your searching easier.
Playing the 13th & 14th you must keep buggies to a pathway and these two holes appear to be different (difficult & narrow) to the rest of the course.
Starter will issue a scorecard & pin position card which helps on approach irons from 150 yds.
Don't be confused by the practice area near the car park which is great for pitching practice onto a rough green, near the starter booth is a high quality practice green which we found very much matched the course greens.
ENJOY
Negative reviews on here had us a bit worried, but probably these were the result of poor weather affecting the course green keeping.
We found fairways spongy and no bare lays, greens smooth and true, bunkers with good quality sand with depth, tees all in good order.

ps - enjoy the coffee at £3 for 2 cups and free refills in the bar.

Nice championship course. Expect long holes and fast greens to hit scoring and strategically places bunkers and trees to punish wayward shots. Mainly a sculpted parkland course it does also have a small cosy woodland section. Many fine old trees add character along with the clever design.
Poor recent weather has left the course with a lot of GUR in May 2012. Greens were also in a mixed condition. Still a fine venue to play given the extensive supporting facilities.

Lovely but windy

Beautiful course but ruined by heavy wind. Very exposed until 13th hole then you dip into the valley.
