What the club says: This 18 hole course is set in 150 acres of beautiful rolling Hertfordshire countryside and is perfect for golfers who enjoy a challenge and like to think their way round a course. The par 71, 6,237 yard layout has been subject to a large investment of time and effort over the last couple of years. A challenging course with immaculate greens and fairways awaits golfers visiting the Manor of Groves Country Manor Hotel, Golf and Country Club. Located close to the Hertfordshire/Essex border.

Manor of Groves
Only served rolls at breakfast no cooked breakfast. Greens and tees worn and needed attention. Hospitality of staff was excellent- green keepers, cafe staff and especially the golf pro, really helpful. Course was a good layout and pace of play was ok.Reviewer Rating

The course layout was interesting and challenging. The general condition was rar5her scruffy though. Tees poor, worn out and uneven. The greens were patchy and some were damaged necessitating the need to move the ball and discuss rules. The fairways were hard to define sometimes between that and light rough. The bar, clubhouse and pro shop good and stand friendly. Couldn't fault the food although no vegetarian options at the clubhouse bar when looking for a snack... other than chips.

Generally the course was in good condition, apart from the greens which need quite a bit of attention.

Shabby condition
Tee boxes and greens in very poor condition. Albeit the greens were undergoing treatment, what was left on and around the greens weren’t tidied, with one green left with piles of sand on the green! Very poor and the worst I’ve seen. Really not worth the green fee with this luck lustre care. Doesn’t take much to clear debris and level sand on greens! Needs more care.Reviewer Rating

Interesting layout, but slow
Interesting layout, shortish but tight. Fairways in good condition, and greens true albeit there was damage on half as there was around the greens with a lot of GIR. Spoilt by the slowness, nearing 4.5 hours for a late morning midweek round not good. Pleasant staff and members.Reviewer Rating

Course not in the best condition. Ropey tee boxes. Some rough greens. Bunkers with no sand

Course in mediocre condition

Course condition very reasonable for end of winter, drainage must be good. Greens were very quick. Good variation of holes, quite a few short par 4's, so scoring opportunities. Clubhouse mediocre, only served sandwiches, had to go to the hotel restaurant to get lunch.

Nice venue

Great day
Course played really well and is obviously well looked after. Great layout and challenging holes for all levels of golfers. Water in the hazards and rough cut to a good level.Well stocked Pro-Shop and helpful, friendly staff.
Definitely looking to play here again.

Disappointed

Nice greens but very soft fairways
Great price .nice greens but fairways were very soft .played here last year and the green on 8th hole was being worked on .sadly you had to play temporary green .12 months later this is still the case .Reviewer Rating

Ploughed field with flags in it
Played this course for the last time. In its current state it should be free to play or should be closed. The drainage is terrible and the absence of anything remotely resembling a proper fairway means removing several lbs of mud from trolley wheels after every hole. They say a bad day on the golf course is better than a good day at work - Manor of Groves is trying to be the exception that disproves the rule. Was hoping to have a word with the guy in the pro shop when we came off the course at 2:30pm, but he had closed up and left, probably out of embarrassmentReviewer Rating

Nice course, but slow
Nice varied parkland course. Slightly let down by the glacial pace of play, caused by 4-balls with no sense of urgency. Dont bother taking practice swings while your paying partners are sizing up their shot, oh no..Expensive food & drink

We found the course to have excellent greens & an interesting enough lay out with plenty of undulations, bunkers, streams & ponds but the tees had been well worn over the summer & the course even on a Friday afternoon was packed with 4 balls & buggies. A Midweek jaunt next time i think

Great course worth a visit
Great course,currently undergoing hole relocation and a few temporary greens. Would help if trolley paths were cared for more maybe a bit of tarmac needed,overall good condition.(Round played: Feb 2022 - Score: 98 Handicap: )

Great Stay
