Ploughed field with flags in it

Played this course for the last time. In its current state it should be free to play or should be closed. The drainage is terrible and the absence of anything remotely resembling a proper fairway means removing several lbs of mud from trolley wheels after every hole. They say a bad day on the golf course is better than a good day at work - Manor of Groves is trying to be the exception that disproves the rule. Was hoping to have a word with the guy in the pro shop when we came off the course at 2:30pm, but he had closed up and left, probably out of embarrassment

Poor experience

The arrival, course conditions, rude members and staff will make the group l played with not return. Hopefully will improve but whole place needs some investment, and overhaul.

Nothing has changed with this course couldn't find ball due to the long grass. Greens are okay but for the price we paid should been better. I'll come back and hopefully be better.

worth a game but somehow soulless

there's nothing inherently wrong with this course, but somehow I feel it lacks character, there are some interesting holes but at times it feels like it's just a field somewhwere in the middle of England. I think it will get seriously wet in the winter, I played end of Sep and balls were already plugging in the fairway on the greens.

I played an Open here with a friend who has recently moved to the area. People who lived nearby told me it was nothing special. I have to agree with them. We immediately noticed the very poor condition of all the early tees in particular - unkempt, uneven, just shabby. Fairways were pretty roughly cut with poor definition between semi and rough. Greens were fine. The short 10th had a lovely aspect. People will find the short, dog-leg par 4s quirky or Mickey Mouse depending on results, but certainly advice or local knowledge is essential to play the course successfully.\\I\'ve played golf for 50 years on the very best courses and some of the worst. Manor of Groves is for me typical of a hotel course with the course receiving less priority and attention than the hotel and leisure club. I personally wouldn\'t play there again, and can\'t understand how some visitors are so easily pleased but there you go. Oh - the meal afterwards was very good by the way; now that WAS worth it!

We found the course to have excellent greens & an interesting enough lay out with plenty of undulations, bunkers, streams & ponds but the tees had been well worn over the summer & the course even on a Friday afternoon was packed with 4 balls & buggies. A Midweek jaunt next time i think
