Excellent value

Ok, so this is not 5* but for the money, it can hardly be bettered. Some of the tee boxes and greens are in need of attention (overlooking rubbish strewn on the margins of some of the fairways) but for a beginner / intermediate, this course is a gem. Members are very welcoming.

Lee Valley has 18 different holes, the layouts of some of the holes are very challenging (Holes 8 and 15 have blind dog-legs to the right; 10 has a tight corridor fairway; 6 has a tight corridor of trees and is very hilly). The layout is the best thing about this course.

The course is on a holiday park and the shop, facilities and green keepers are holiday park workers, not golf pros (or at least that is how it seems). The fairway are rough or rougher with horrendous rough or mini forests framing each hole. The hope that Summer may bring shorter grass is based more on the possibility of debilitating heat rather than a good mow. The greens are full of pot holes from previously un-repaired pitch marks, or just wear and tear, and there seems no effort to sort this out.

All this being said, I like playing there. It's only 4889 yards and the fairways and green are awful, but it is a challenge. There are 6 Par 3s and no Par 5s (if you play off the yellows) but you wouldn't come away from playing there thinking you had it easy.

PROS:
Challenging conditions
Challenging holes but not because of length

CONS:
Staff
Facilities (no club house)
Condition of the grass on the course

Good course for a reasonable price. My ball landed in duck poo but I guess that's just part of life.

Course was playing well for this time of year - greens were slightly bumpy, but fairways in good condition. albeit golfers need to do a better job of replacing their divots.

Really tight course which you don't need a driver on. Greens are better than many much more expensive courses, perfectly cut and very undulating.

The course is in a leisure park somewhere in the general vacinity of the North Circular. The club house is, essentially, a gaggle of porta-cabins, one of which serves as a cafe serving the regular mix of sausage baps and styrofoam cupped tea and coffee. The toilets are surprisingly nice I must say and the locals have always struck me as very nice, polite and personable. Oddly, they have camping facilities for those who wish to holiday in Enfield.

It paints an odd picture when you arrive but don't be fooled - the course itself I have always found to be in excellent condition, the price is more or less unrivalled and the views of the lake as you hack and slash your way around are an extremely pleasant break from the grey urban sprawl of the surrounding area.

I whole heartedly recommend this course, if I lived locally, I would certainly be pleased to play this more weekends then not.

A word of warning, if you are the type that requires a beer after your round, make sure you've got a local pub in mind as they do not make sales of alcohol on site.

Lee valley golf course in the winter/spring

Played this course quite a few times but on this occasion fairways had not been cut short on quite a few holes so it was like playing out of the rough , hopefully once the weather dries up a bit more they will attend to the fairways and greens but all in all I enjoy playing there good prices aswell

Unfortunately the fairways had not been mowed. Mowing started as we played the 18th hole. The course could have been so much better. I estimated that no maintenance had been done for weeks rather than days.

It has its place in the world

The negative...
- Tee boxes aren't in great condition.
- Fairway grass is too long. Some of it feels like you are in light rough.
- Greens are in bad condition and are unrealistically slow.
- The clientele don't seem to care about repairing pitchmarks
- Bunkers are just not maintained properly.

The positive...
- Price is reasonable
- Some very tight and challenging holes for any level of player
- Superb course design
- No stuffy dress code
- Open to all

Summary...
I generally play at private clubs and if you are used to courses in very good condition you will be disappointed. However, this is a low priced, municipal course and expectations should be set accordingly. This is a fabulous facility for the beginner, high handicapper or anyone returning to the game after a long break. It's worth having a look if you're a better player, the challenging layout might just tempt you back. It has its place in the world... it's open, accessible, cheap and will attract non-golfers and beginners as well as more regular golfers. Despite the condition, I actually enjoyed my round and the challenge. I'll definitely be back as I have a son who has just taken up the game and for this it is perfect.
I couldn't help thinking that with just a bit more maintenance and management this course could be one of the best.... but then again, it wouldn't serve the community as it does today.

At certain times, for £11 the course is a bargain, at full price for £19 it's a bit less bright and breezy but still good fun. It's challenging enough to feel good. Tee to green it's a fair track but the damage to the greens (inconsiderate people please learn to repair a pitchmark on the green!) can make these a little unpredictable. Good fun and usually quiet
