What The Club Says
Designed by the renowned William "Rocky" Roquemore, architect of several other golf projects in Portugal, Belas is set in the beauty of the Carregueira Mountains. It has been perfectly integrated within the country club's residential development of villas spread over the hills and provides fantastic views of the mountains and valleys beyond. The par 72 course extends to 6,977 yards and is divided into two very different sections. The first crosses a naturally preserved landscape littered with various fauna, the second runs by the excellent villas that are part of the resort development. The undulating and sheltered fairways and greens provide golfers of all handicaps with a testing challenge while still providing a pleasurable round.

Better than past reviews suggest
I had read reviews suggesting this was in v poor condition but when we played it was not. Greens were fast and true, fairways and tees were fine if not quite pristine and bunkers were fine - must have been redone if past reviews are correct.layout is challenging with water in play on many holes. Need a buggy as there are long distances between tees and greens.
Much quieter than courses on the coast.

Disappointing
We had high hopes of this one and it definitely has potential, but the condition of the course just wasn't good enough. If it was not ranked so highly in Portugal's top 100 courses then I might be less bothered by this, but some of the fairways were really rough. Some bunkers were great but others had grass growing in them (and I'm not being picky, it was about half the bunkers and quite long grass). The greens were absolutely fine. It looked like a club that was running out of money and was putting everything they could into the greens and doing the bare minimum to maintain the rest. The layout is good and it is challenging and perfectly enjoyable, but don't believe the ranking position and lower your expectations accordingly.Reviewer Rating
