Awful golf course

Took 6 hours to play the worst golf course I’ve ever played. Management didn’t care about pace of play. Most of the greens are situated at the top or bottom of steep hills and the greens just sit on the slopes .. very tough to hit an iron to statin a green, then hard to putt on them to follow. Will never return.

1 night 2 rounds 9 Golfers

The course had a good layout, great views, there wasn't a 2nd cut of fairway it was a fairway then 5-6 inches of rough, impossible to find your ball and to make it worse the cuttings weren't collected so made it even harder, you were punished by putting a ball 2 yards off the fairway as you couldn't find it.Greens didn't run true, we didn't play the 2nd day just wasn't worth it.we are all members and society players, everyone said how badly maintained it was, even a greenkeeper said members have asked for there money back.
Hotel and food/beer very good,Just don't play golf there.

Shocking condition don't waste your time

It feels like the club palm off the valley course on societies and non members. You wouldn't dream of paying to play this course its in a disgraceful condition. The greens are the worst kept greens i have ever seen and this is peak season. The green staff should be ashamed and so should the club for charging people to play this course. Wont bother writing all the other issues but there are many, poor signage directing between tee’s, no paths betwen tee boxes in certain areas, issue after issue dont easte your money here.

Hellidon course at Hellidon Lakes

Read some really poor reviews but they were dated so thought 2 of us would give it a chance. Pro shop zero, it's not a shop, it's a counter in a dingy room. Practise putting green is tiny and poorly maintained (theme of the day). No longer has a driving range (unlike what it says online),the reason is they won't replace the balls ????. The course is poor and laid out in such a strange way. Cut grass everywhere and some of the worst tee boxes I've seen anywhere. Greens were all over the place and whatever word is opposite of pure. Won't be going back, and for the green fees, trust me, you can find so many better courses for the money. Real shame

Not enjoyable

Two of us played Hellidon Lakes today, I’d read several reviews which were mixed so went there with an open mind.
Didn’t start well, as I read online that it had a driving range, we both like to warm up on the range so pick courses because of this. Disappointed when we arrived to be told that they don’t have any balls for the range as they’ve ran out…..WTF.
Pro shop was poor, with very little to offer.
The course it’s self in our opinion was poorly maintained. Dried clumps of grass everywhere, both on the fairways and rough. Clearly not cut regularly so is left to grow to long. Pin positions on the greens were poor and not enjoyable.
Sadly we will not return to this course.
These opinions are mine and some will not agree but I personally doing think it was worth the money.

What has happened?

Our club captain organised for more than 40 golfers to play over two days at Hellidon Lakes; frankly, it was a huge disappointment. The hotel is ok but the service was very slow (40 minutes for. a sandwich) and unfriendly (we were told we would have to pay extra for supplementary bread with our main meal). Then there was the dismal state of the courses - one having fairways which were so difficult to differentiate from the rough that balls were lost on them. We were told to complain to the pro's shop about them the following day but it was closed! I visited Hellidon Lakes for a birthday party a decade ago and was impressed. Today, it feels like a faded glory. Senior management refused to answer complaints, leaving frontline staff to deal with them.

I play at Hellidon a few times each year and it was in its worst condition I have seen. We couldn\'t play the Hellidon loop for maintenance reasons and when we saw the state of the greens, we could only assume they were even worse than on the other two loops. Many of the greens we played had large bare patches, making putting a lottery. The greenkeepers had left a lot of grass on them understandably, but this meant they were much slower than on other courses.\\I had never played the Valley course so that was an interesting experience, but the lack of signs as to where the next tee was, or maps of the holes was very confusing. Other reviewers have made the same comment, so they need to sort it out. \\In its current condition, £25 or £17.50 does not represent fair value for money.

Great layout, very poor condition

Played in August 2021. Very hilly course, but walkable (electric trolley advised). Some interesting holes. Unfortunately the greens were in very poor condition, with bare patches, variable speed and bumpy (it can't be blamed on recent weather as the Staverton Golf Club nearby is in very good condition. Sadly it looks as though little money has been spent on upkeep. On the plus side, the hotel is quite good. There are a few courses in the vicinity, I would recommend trying them instead of Hellidon.

Played this around 7 years ago and can remember it was a nice risk and reward course. Unfortunately the condition has really gone down hill since the last time i played. Looks like the white tee boxes have gone, tee boxes scruffy and greens bare in patches. Shame as with a little TLC this could be pretty good again

Played this course a couple of times over the last few years and each time I have to remind myself of the challenges it poses especially with the undulating terrain. We played red and blue courses (Hellidon and Lakes). I felt that the fairways were in good nick but some of the tee boxes and greens were a bit rough. We planned to warm up in the range but it had been closed because the balls kept getting stollen.

Quirky but interesting layout on rolling hillside course with hardly a flat lie and a few odd holes. A bit of a slog if walking. Definitely a summer course, Played in February and course was very wet and walkways rather muddy. Greens a little patchy but overall pretty good for time of year. Excellent value at £10.00

Hard walk!

Honestly get a buggy!! It's hills from the get go! Greens don't take spin so it's bump and run approach type golf. Some accurate golf required at times and off the tee can be a challenge. Sensible play is the call on most holes unless your hitting very straight or giving yourself free hits when no one is looking.

A physically tough challenge

Some interesting holes, short par 4's and strategically placed water hazards. Interesting test of golf but in places had felt like the course had been forced in small corners and steep hillsides. A very tough walk, especially on a hot day, buggy highly reccomended.

Condition was average for early summer, greens very hard so balls would run through and into the rough at the back no matter how short the ball pitched. Pleasant staff and good value.
