What the club says: An interesting and varied layout constructed over the gently rolling valleys of Northamptonshire - all three nines having some superb holes. There is also a total of 17 lakes which are strategically placed to encourage golfers to think their way round the course. The putting surfaces benefit from a state-of-the-art irrigation system that gives great year-round consistency - essential for reading the challenging greens. The 'Red' course is the longest at 3,332 yards, with the 'Blue' measuring 3,277 and the 'Green' coming in at 2,791.

1 night 2 rounds 9 Golfers
The course had a good layout, great views, there wasn't a 2nd cut of fairway it was a fairway then 5-6 inches of rough, impossible to find your ball and to make it worse the cuttings weren't collected so made it even harder, you were punished by putting a ball 2 yards off the fairway as you couldn't find it.Greens didn't run true, we didn't play the 2nd day just wasn't worth it.we are all members and society players, everyone said how badly maintained it was, even a greenkeeper said members have asked for there money back.Hotel and food/beer very good,Just don't play golf there.

Hellidon course at Hellidon Lakes
Read some really poor reviews but they were dated so thought 2 of us would give it a chance. Pro shop zero, it's not a shop, it's a counter in a dingy room. Practise putting green is tiny and poorly maintained (theme of the day). No longer has a driving range (unlike what it says online),the reason is they won't replace the balls ????. The course is poor and laid out in such a strange way. Cut grass everywhere and some of the worst tee boxes I've seen anywhere. Greens were all over the place and whatever word is opposite of pure. Won't be going back, and for the green fees, trust me, you can find so many better courses for the money. Real shameReviewer Rating

Not enjoyable
Two of us played Hellidon Lakes today, I’d read several reviews which were mixed so went there with an open mind.Didn’t start well, as I read online that it had a driving range, we both like to warm up on the range so pick courses because of this. Disappointed when we arrived to be told that they don’t have any balls for the range as they’ve ran out…..WTF.
Pro shop was poor, with very little to offer.
The course it’s self in our opinion was poorly maintained. Dried clumps of grass everywhere, both on the fairways and rough. Clearly not cut regularly so is left to grow to long. Pin positions on the greens were poor and not enjoyable.
Sadly we will not return to this course.
These opinions are mine and some will not agree but I personally doing think it was worth the money.

What has happened?
Our club captain organised for more than 40 golfers to play over two days at Hellidon Lakes; frankly, it was a huge disappointment. The hotel is ok but the service was very slow (40 minutes for. a sandwich) and unfriendly (we were told we would have to pay extra for supplementary bread with our main meal). Then there was the dismal state of the courses - one having fairways which were so difficult to differentiate from the rough that balls were lost on them. We were told to complain to the pro's shop about them the following day but it was closed! I visited Hellidon Lakes for a birthday party a decade ago and was impressed. Today, it feels like a faded glory. Senior management refused to answer complaints, leaving frontline staff to deal with them.Reviewer Rating

Very enjoyable weekend
Stayed on a one-night two round deal Sept 2022. The hotel is clean and the majority of rooms have been renovated with new carpets etc. Can't fault cleanliness or comfort. Dinner and breakfast were very good and the snack provided after our 2nd round was excellent. The course (Hellidon/Lakes) is on the challenging side but not unplayable for a 20 handicapper. Greens and bunkers were well maintained (some tee boxes could do with levelling) and everyone in the Society said they would return. Recommended.Reviewer Rating

Tough but fair
This is a hilly course that has some very interesting holes. The daily tee's (Yellow) are a much easier option but are still a good test.Reviewer Rating

Shocking condition don't waste your time
It feels like the club palm off the valley course on societies and non members. You wouldn't dream of paying to play this course its in a disgraceful condition. The greens are the worst kept greens i have ever seen and this is peak season. The green staff should be ashamed and so should the club for charging people to play this course. Wont bother writing all the other issues but there are many, poor signage directing between tee’s, no paths betwen tee boxes in certain areas, issue after issue dont easte your money here.Reviewer Rating

A real challenge. Very challenging course.
Challenging course. VERY hilly. Greens a bit fluffy and slow. Not one green is flat. Some holes are cut on a slope making putting a real challenge. Tee markers also placed on a slope on a couple of holes making driving more of a challenge than it should.Reviewer Rating
