What the club says: Darwen Golf Club was established in 1893 and has now become recognised as probably one of the best courses in the area, yet still remaining one of the most challenging in the North West, with a course par of 71 and 6354 yards of drifting lifts and drops. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, with Darwen Tower built in 1897 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, dominating the landscape and visible wherever you are on the course.

Very Hilly course but some stunning views. Hole 15 is a very tough, uphill par 4, put the postage stamp par 3 16 after it is a really nice little hole. Clubhouse is great

The ground person should be congratulated on the quality of the course these are the best greens I've played on this years.
These will only be better come the summer months it will be one hell of a challenge on dry greens.
Fairways just as good as the greens.
We never used the facilities hence no score and reflect any other reason than that course 12 out of 10.

Nice course worth playing

Second time playing Darwen, this time in one of their open events. Friendly welcome in clubhouse & pro shop. Small putting green outside clubhouse. Course in good condition, greens a little slow but it is open to elements so would be very tricky if greens were quicker. Good variety of holes, nice par 3s especially 16th "postage stamp" where you could hit anything from 9 iron to rescue depending on wind direction/speed. Not for faint hearted as a few hills to negotiate but worth it for the views.

Good condition

After just moving from winter golf Darwen Golf Club was in lovely condition. After the harsh winter the only slight problem was the green being different speeds. Some were quicker than others but all the greens were true, even and in good condition and am sure they will be fast and true in the next few weeks.

The rest of the course was excellent. Well done to the green keepers.

Cracker

Darwen is a cracking course, its undulations & slopes make it a real test of golf.
There are holes where you can open the shoulders, but equally there are clever holes like the 4th, 5th & 6th where driver may not be the best choice.
The par 3 16th is a stunner.
The greens are in superb condition, the members & the pro all friendly.
Top this off with great views of Darwen Tower & the surrounding area, what's not to like.

Stunning

Stunning course, stunning condition with stunning scenery.
What a fantastic course, up, down & along the side of Winter Hill, there's never a flat lie. Not a course to walk if you're not 100% fit, but we'll worth a visit.
The course is in great condition, particularly the greens, superb.
The pro in the shop was great & all the locals very friendly.
Go play it, there's not a bad hole on the course & if your golf's poor, you can just enjoy the scenery.

Enjoyed the round at Darwen GC

First time at Darwen and I was pleasantly surprised. The cost was cheap and the course in excellent condition. The fairways and greens were well cared for and manicured. The greens were a good speed. There are a number of interesting and challenging holes. Although the course is a hilly it's not as severe or tiring as many. I highly recommend you visit this course.

Located on a hillside overlooking Darwen, this is quite a hilly course in places but you get rewarded by fantastic views. The course was in fantastic condition - both fairways and the velvety greens. Couple of clumsy shots messed up my scorecard but an enjoyable afternoon.

Some good, some less so.

Darwen on a Sunday evening had all its good bits- the enjoyable challenge of the course, the great views, the satisfaction of making it up the hills. We got held up for a few moments by a gentleman taking pictures for the website.

The greens were running smoothly but very slowly. Unfortunately the round was marred by the presence of two dogs rampaging around on the back nine. One in particular was very aggressive- I knew I carried a three iron for a reason... if that isn't distressing enough, I witness the dogs defecating on the fairway at least twice.

Shame, as I normally enjoy Darwen.

Only 9 holes were open due to the weather. The course has wide fairways and the greens are in really good condition. The course is quite steep in places which highlighted how unfit I am (my fault, not the course). I had a very enjoyable time there and will most certainly be going back when I can tackle all 18 holes. Well worth a visit.

Played this course for first time after reading and hearing mixed reviews so I thought I would give it a go and make up my own mind. Friendly welcome in club shop. Course in reasonable condition for beginning of November, greens a bit woolly and slow but had just been scarified and top dressed. Quite hilly in places especially back 9. Some good holes though like the 5th

A real must play for any serious golfer - if you can score well here you are a good player! £10 a round too!
