Mud mud everywhere!
We were due to play on the members course but on arrival were informed that it was closed due to mud and water. We were moved onto the Woosnam course. Our society have a number of keen golfers who will play in the wind and rain and will accept imperfect conditions to play.
However, on this occasion, it was clear after just a few holes that the course should not be open. Golf balls were plugging on the fairways and anything off line resulted in a lost ball on many occasions. Some greens had damaged areas and footmarks due to being soaked. Once you have played a few holes, you just keep going. Its what society golfers do!
The amount of mud in the well used areas was awful and the rough had been allowed to grow making it a very disappointing day
We all managed to get round because that's what crazy golfers do when they have travelled long distances and taken the day off work.
I know times are tough and businesses need to make money but than course on that day should not have been open for play.
I hope the course recovers quickly and not too many golfers are allowed to play on it in that condition.

Dale Hill Golf Club
Stayed at the above course with a group of 20 senior players. The Woosnam course was abysmal. The fairways were ripped up. We were informed that there was an infestation of leather jackets with animals and birds creating a problem scraping /pecking the fairways. Our group were all off the opinion that the state of the fairways was more to do with poor course management. Apart from the fairways the bunkers were poorly kept - the sand was cheap and full of pebbles and most bunkered were unplayable.Equally the greens were full of little stones.
I'm afraid this group of very experienced players with many years experience had nothing positive to say about the Woosnam course.
Dale Hill we believe have no other option but to close the course and do some major work in order to bring the course back to standard.
I must emphasise that the above comments relate to the Woosnam course only as the old course was in reasonably good condition.
Dale hill cannot expect golfers to pay for playing this course.Avoid.

Leather jackets
We booked a 16 player Society day for last Friday (woosnam course ) I. Paid £10 pp deposit £160 non refundable. And 2 weeks before we went I was told we have the leather jacket infestation but when I asked was told only 2 fairways are bad , well all fairways have been scarified. , mud no grass . I believe they new about this ages ago but still took our money , leave this course well alone for 3 yearsReviewer Rating

Not for societies
Woosnam course is decent and worth a visit. The greens were in good condition and the majority of the course well maintained. The old course is nothing special, you could probably play a mid iron off every tee.The front desk were polite and helpful but the service in restaurant and bar was appalling. If you were lucky enough to get someone’s attention then it would still take a good 15 mins for your drinks to arrive. The food was tasted cheap and was overpriced. Things were that bad that our whole group walked down to the local pub.
I’d happily play again if I was in the area but will not be returning as part of a society.

May Seniors Open
The Woosnam course was the worst I have ever seen it, the leather jacket infestation and what looked like the removal of all the grass from most fairways has left the course looking very sad. The local rule allowed us to pick and place if you could find any grass to place it on. I love this golf course but found it suffering badly! As it was a shotgun start the bar was packed and we queued for 15 mins to get a drink as only one bar was open due to a ladies match that was using the other bar! Come on Dale Hill this is just bad management!
