Although now a 9 hole course, it is very well maintained and interesting. I feel something could be done with the 2nd par 5 hole. From the yellow tees there is a ditch approximately 200 yards, which would catch most mid to high handicap players. Still good value for money.

Greens had just been treated , but I've seen less sand on some beaches in the UK.
A few more distance markers around the course would have helped, especially on the additional holes

My brother and I recently played the Phoenix course for the first time since it was altered and were delighted with what has been done. Three holes from the Griffin course have been incorporated making it a far better balanced course and a good, fair test for occasional players like us.
It must have been an extremely hard decision for the owners, particularly because Matthew Rogerson designed the original course together with his late father, but in our view it was a stroke of genius which has turned a decent but unexciting short 9-hole course into a far more interesting course.
As occasional (and not very good) players we find a lot of courses too challenging. The Phoenix has plenty of challenges but they are ones dreadful old hackers like us have a sporting chance of surmounting.
Replacing those three holes with three from the Phoenix has made the Griffin a little longer. It must be almost 30 years since we last played the Griffin (back then it was the "old" course) but plan to do so over the summer.
